PE Zone chat is MADNESS. Please give us designated Trade and LFG channels.

So right now at 2pm CDT (not even peak hours), there are roughly 2,400 people all potentially using the same channel to:

1. Find a group or a certain class for a group.
2. Sell or trade items.
3. Ask general questions.
4. Spam gold adds.

Zone chat is simply ridiculous. You can't even read everything as fast as it scrolls.

if you insist on making all PE instances share the same channel, then at least give us an official trade channel and an official LFG channel. I know the issue has been brought up before, but it never really seems to gain any steam for some reason. It's terrible. I've played almost if not all of the major MMOs that have been released within the last decade, and I cannot think of one that tried to use one channel for all three functions.

Cryptic's chat server allows people to create custom channels so that they don't need to make official ones.

You make a channel called "Trade" and I suspect everyone will join it. No one will use it though, because even in games where they have an official trade channel, people hawk their wares in general anyway. Go capitalism.

they need to make a default Trade and LFG channels, yes I agree.

there is a custom chat feature but for some completely bizarre reason it goes across ALL cryptic games (or whatever) so the LFG channel is people playing Star Trek and HAMSTER (seriously WTF?)

There certainly should be a trade and LFG channel and I can’t really imagine a good reason why there isn’t one. I can imagine a few bad reasons why there might not be one.

Possible reasons there is no trade or lfg channel:

No one cares. I mean no one that can do anything about it. They launched the game and just forgot to do it and now who cares. If you want one make it yourself, whatever.

No one knows how. The chat system works the way it works and no one knows how to change anything about it. They are so swamped with issues related to getting your money that your chatting needs are the last things in the developer’s minds.

You are expected to show some leadership. Cryptic is waiting for a leader to arise from your midst. This messiah will usher in a new era of trade and LFG by establishing the channels and guiding the masses to their use.

And if you happen to be fond of Tinfoil hats:

Its part of future cash development. That’s right join the merchant’s guild for just 2000 Zen and get unlimited access to the Trade channel or join the Adventurers guild for just 6000 Zen and get unlimited access to the LFG channel.

But anyway you slice it, with a string of games stretching into the past; there is no good reason not to have these channels.

I believe they care. Despite the way it seems at times. For various reasons. I think their biggest fault is that they grossly underestimated the amount of people there were going to get, and most of this is a direct result of that. They are guilty of being unprepaired imo, but not ignorance.

Trade channels are ignored in virtually every MMO I have ever played since the dawn of MMO's. People spam Zone because they know you'll see it.

Still, a LFG channel would be nice. Even though it will inevitably be filled with trade and gold spammers just like every other channel.

If you're looking for a trade, the AH still works. You get AD for selling your item, and then use those AD to buy the item you want. There is no reason to spam zone, ever, if you're trying to sell or trade. Well, unless you're trying to rip people off at higher than AH prices. Or sell items for actual gold instead of AD, although I'm not really sure why you would do that since gold is almost ubiquitously useless in Neverwinter.

I disagree. The trade channels I have seen in MMOs are used constantly. Just to name a few, Vanguard, Rift, WoW. People will always spam Zone or general chat, but it is significantly less in games with lfg and trade channels. And gold is far from useless. Top end healing potions and injury kits and crafting mats are not cheap and in high demand if you are a running end game or crafting.
