Not sure about scaling quite yet, but thinking this is better than using traps. Take 1 assassin in isolated area to trigger-spawn by 2 standard guards. Add another assassin to spawn after 1st one's death (and so on) to extend timer. Mix encounters up to vary the timer, but this combo seems to work fairly well, with 1 assassin being the shortest duration timer.
Can someone confirm higher level scaling vs. lower level?

The times definitely get messed up at different levels for any combat timers I have used.

I've had good consistency using skeleton minions across all levels.
