As it stands this is my first Beta(alpha, live, whatever you guys like to fight about calling it)
Coming from a background of playing WoW since Vanilla through to late Cataclysm and in the meantime quitting and trying:
Warhammer Online
Rift
Conan
Guild Wars 2 (Acquired server 2nd Twilight)
from my point of view I've found this game great so far, and yes I also have a lot of gripes about it, especially since I'm playing a extremely well geared GWF. Now don't take this as a hate/fanboy thread because it is not.
Good things
Starting up in the game some of the tiny things made my day, keys being prebound to actual commonly used keys (Q,E,R) Thankyou! Unique targeting style I hadn't yet experienced, the hack and slash style and quick engagement with enemies with little downtime (Pre 35 GWF sucks btw).
I let slide a lot of the bugs I kept encountering because I was actually having quite a lot of fun questing and leveling which is a difficult thing to do in many MMO's where the usual quest rounds of kill things, gather things, blow things up would involve some bag space consuming quest item which felt clunky and difficult to use at times, Neverwinter has simplified (some may say that's bad) and made a more fluid system.
.. and then I hit lategame
Bad things
First off the bat, class balance, playing as a GWF I don't want to reiterate what has already been said 1000 times, and even though it's in beta stages these class imbalances should be fixed soon otherwise we are going to hit Live official release and realize that for every GF/GWF there is 50 TR's. It is sometimes forcing people to re-roll just because their class can't cut it. Personally I love the GWF, I am having fun and cannot wait for some class balances to head this way, only ever getting out damaged by a TR by around 5-10% in T2 dungeons (I am 11.5k GS and itemized well though, and our TR is only 9k) With all that being said sometimes dedication will be paid off when these class balances/fixes finally roll out, Swinging my giant pool noodle might eventually turn into swinging an actual item that does some much needed damage.
Gear: 3 letters: BOP, please.. when you release raids make it BOP, I know you would rather make it BOE so players will have more of an inkling to spend money on Zen and convert to AD just to get these items, but it is going to annoy and drive away many people. This would also help with the current NEED/GREED system which any man and his dog can currently just steal all the loot and sell it for his own gain instead of actually helping others with their gear requirements.
Currency: Either a totally overlooked aspect of the game or a smart strategy to build revenue on PWE's end, but there is no profession gathering in the game, there is the profession consumption side "Leadership, tailoring, smithing etc etc" but there is no other way to gather Astral Diamond apart from selling BOE epics you've ninjaad/gotten legit in dungeons, or playing the AH/Exhange like in any other MMO.
PS- The Dungeoneering/Nature/Thievery etc does not produce enough income to constitute it as a gathering resource.
Dungeons: I love the dungeons personally, there could be less trash imo but apart from that they are great, one MAJOR flaw though is the bosses.
Simply giving a mob significant health, red circles to dodge and a **** tonne of adds doesn't make an encounter interesting, there is a few bosses that I can see have tried to have some gameplay elements added such as the first boss in the Frozen dungeon, but it still just boils down to a lot of add management. Please add more interesting encounters, as much as I really dislike WoW now it does have a lot of great ideas when it comes to boss fights, there are multitudes of different encounters/strategies in every raid, I sincerely hope Gauntglym will produce the same.
Overall I really really love this game, aside from all the bugs and issues that I and many others have raised I really hope that PWE will listen and deliver a long lasting MMO rather than a short cash cow.
Just my 2 cents
