How does weapon damage work?

I've been playing around with different classes, but across all of them I have tos ay I don't udnerstand weapon damage.

Say I have an orb that does xx-yy damage. Then I have my litany of spells, starting with magic missiles each having their own damage listed. How does that damage that the orb does factor into this?

If I fire a magic missile, are the damages combined? If not, how do I attack with just the orb?

Thanks, pink

The damage on your skills CHANGES as you swap things, including a weak to a strong weapon. Go try the vendor, get a lowbie weapon and compare it to your current one, and magic missile should jump in damage when you put on the better weapon.

So, the skills have your current damage for that skill with the weapon you are using now.

I do not know the formulae for how a particular skill's damage increases based off the weaponl. At a guess (all I have so far) its linear of the form ... (weapon damage + power bonus and stuff) * skill coefficient.
