Boss Encounters

edited May 2013 in The Foundry
Just started doing Foundry and, like with any quest, at the end of this little quest I want to have an epic boss encounter. The problem I am having, though, it that there doesn't seem to be a way to make an "elite" mob? Or perhaps I am over looking it somehow. I place a hard mob pack, and the HP isn't exactly what I am looking for for boss material.

Is there some specific place I am to look? Did they remove the option to make your own miniboss within given perimeters?

I've done the Foundry today and I've seen elites placed, especially on maps that have been published in the last week. Any tips?

You can place some hard/elite mobs, but boss encounters aren't fully live yet. They are in the works as soon as possible exploits have been tested enough in-house.

Use encounters with mobs that have solo as their type. search the forums there is a list of them here someplace.

I know bosses aren't live, I meant what Zlain said. Solo encounters where things have some beefed up HP and hit like a freight train. :D

Place an elite mob, skin it however you like.
Place another elite mob, skin it the same as the first one. Set it to spawn the moment the first one dies.

This way you can have a boss that frequently changes tactics and has "adds" spawned at regular intervals.

I'll invite you to take a look at how I did one of my bosses. This is a 5 minute Foundry just to show off how to make bosses and for players to test their skills. It's an elemental summoner. He starts as a fire giant, spawns a few fire elementals, and sets the whole area on fire. In wave 2, he changes to ice, the fires go out and a blizzard starts, ice spires jet out of the ground. He has 2 "forms" after that. NW-DDLLY8IQ9

    A few ways:

First, look for mobs that say 'solo' or 'elite'... go through the encounters, and look at the expanded text, it will tell you things like "Eye of Gruumsh - Controller Elite" under "Orc - Mixed - Hard Difficulty 5"... These will usually suffice... BUT...

Second, if you want a more definitive 'boss' fight... you could storyline stage it out... Since boss fights are usually 'scripted' events (meaning that at certain points the boss does X, then at another point does Y... even if all X amounts to is summoning some friends, and Y is summoning MORE friends...) Then, you can do a scripted fight:

1: Fight Ogreena the Female Ogre Champion!
.... Ogreena has a set behavior of Fight til Submission, whereupon stage 1 is complete, and Ogreena Yells "OH! You have wounded me!!"
    2: Fight her children!
.... Set a few easy encounters with appears when objective complete, "Fight Ogreena the Female Ogre Champion!"
.... Set original Ogreena for disappear when objective in progress, "Fight her children!"
.... Make a new encounter for Ogreena, set to appear when objective complete, "Fight her children!"
    3: Finish Her Off!
.... and set her to actually fight til death now...

Now you have a simple scripted fight... 3 parts, fight Brute Solo Ogre (can find it under "Orc - Melee - Standard Difficulty 1") dunno if you can make it female, but whatever, simple name change if not, and make it HIS Guards or something instead of HER children lol... but in any case, you can script out boss fights if you want more challenge or in-depth storyline... like perhaps it is an Ogre-Mage (throw some robes on it) and fight to submission, objective complete, have special effects "Big dust cloud" set to appear when objective complete, next stage, "Chase after the Ogre-Mage" or something... and then you fight it again later somewhere?

Just ideas, basic ones at that (may make a good quest, may not, dunno), gotta play around with the foundry and see what all you can do... my suggestion? Build basic quest... test it... change something... go out on a limb with a selection, test it... continue doing this for a few days, then scrap that quest, and start over with the knowledge you now have lol...

Oh, and read every sticky, watch youtube videos (you'd be surprised at the tricks and stuff people have figured out)... they help!

I just found that list! Amazing! Thanks for all the help guys! And the scripted event I will have to mess with. That sounds pretty awesome, though. Maybe in later quests!
