As the topic announced I am having a bit of a dilemma choosing which melee class to roll. I've tried every class to about 15-20 and still can't decide which to stick with, so I am hoping one of you fine people would help tip me over the proverbial cliff and help me with some insight. First, I love tanking/ being up close and personal to the enemy and healing in most games. I am normally a paladin for that matter as well (Blast you cryptic for not having paladin as a starter class). As such you can see where the problem starts.
GWF: I went with GWF first because it was supposedly the AOE melee king/ off tank class. Needless to say it didn't quite live up to the expectations. My defense was paper thin at lower levels and I hear it gets worse latter on. Also threat generation is also a problem as I can't seem to pull anything off a well played TR/CW or DC at all.
GF: I love the idea of the GF. It is right up my ally. Sword & Shield, defensive but able to put up some serious dps by lvl 60. However, the lack of mobility in the early levels is a pain. Does this get better later on? I understand that it also falls prey to the threat trouble the GWF suffers from? It also seems to have many broken talents/ feats?
TR: The TR, forum wise, is the most complete melee class. Not as many bugs to contend with. It's mobile and deals amazing dps while leveling. The problem with this is that it doesn't fit the tanky-in your face- bill, which would be ok except for one thing. I hear complaints that by end game the -Amazing- part of the dps falls off and becomes average. Couple that with the fact that it doesn't have much utility (please correct me on that) AND everyone and their dog is playing one makes it seem very unappealling.
I'd love to get some advice if you wouldn't mind, in helping me choose. Thanks in advance.
