Leatherworking Enhancement Slots

I'm getting up to some pretty nice items in leatherworking like leather armor +4 and leather boots +4. These would be awesome compared to my equipment but they have no enhancement slots. Am I missing something? Is there a simple way to add slots to a crafted item?
