So I got muted for this reason, I'm not asking for an unmute I understand now it's illegal, but why are there so many people doing it not getting muted as well?

I did not think that was illegal. Were you spamming over and over? Really, LFG is the only way to get a group atm.

Don't worry, other people are being muted as well. You aren't special.

Stop spamming and you won't get muted.

I highly doubt some GM saw you say in GenChat, "LFG BLAH BLAH BLAH" one time and lost his sauce then rage muted you.

Getting muted has nothing to do with GMs.

It could be the same reason many petty crimes go unsolved. The number of people committing petty crimes in some areas transcends the number of people employed to keep crime down to a large degree. They can catch some, but a good number get away with it. I suspect in most online games the number of rule breakers for each rule enforcer is pretty high, so they can't catch all the chat abusers, and likely not even most. But, they do catch some.

Everytime someone gets ignored or reported it increases a counter on your character. When the counter gets high enough you get auto banned for 24 hours from chat.

Muting is based on a certain number of people either reporting you for spam or flagging you on ignore.

It's possible you were spamming LFG a little to often and people took offense to it, it's possible you were inadvertently flagged because your name was in the middle of some RMT spam, or it's possible that several people put you on ignore for an unrelated reason to your LFG.

So who's doing the 24 hour muting?

    Edit:

Nm, some people explained whilst I typed this up. That's interesting to know. I'm gonna start flagging everyone in chat now. Twill be fun to watch the automatic mutings fly.

Players. If you get ignored by a certain number of people, you get muted. There are people out there griefing others, ignoring them on purpose, for fun, even in larger groups, in order to do this.

Feel free to use and direct others to the LFG custom channels in my guide if you choose to use them.

Let this be a lesson to you folks that spam the same bloody msg over and over...think about it. You spam. The other guys spam because your spam spammed their spam off the screen. Which then makes you spam too. Then everyone else spams. Spamception.

If you'd have any bloody courtesy and self-control, and everyone else did too, we could ALL do ONE line and never have to worry about being seen or not. Stop freaking out because your message didn't happen to be the last one seen, or another msg was sent at the same time yours was and, while pushed up, is still visible. Spam only begets spam and it snowballs into a mountain of spam and NOONE wins, especially not you.

This is the ONLY game I've ever actually left a relatively "global" chat on. I've sat through Barrens Chat, LFG, Multi-city Trade Chats and never had it as bad as I've seen it in this game, it's insane, and I come from a background of mid-90s AOL chatbots where text scrolled by a mile a minute. I've avoided using Report Spam on non-Goldsellers so far in case one of these tards ever has to be heard in one of my queue groups(god help me) but if it keeps up I just might have to.

Not everyone is griefing (although I am sure it can happen on rare occasions).
If people are spamming LFG then they are spamming.. plain and simple.

I personally will use /report spam anytime I am in Protector's Enclave and get three or more identical posts in under a minute.
I rarely go to Protector's Enclave so it usually only happens when I am logging in or getting ready to log out.

The problem is, people who do not spam, people who use the zone chat with courtesy, self-control and with zero spam, still get muted, because the mute squads out there target people arbitrarily.

    When people see:

    Zone: LFG *class* T2 FARM
    Zone: LFG *class* T2 FARM
    Zone: LFG *class* T2 FARM
    Zone: Where's the bank?
    Zone: LFG *class* T2 FARM
Zone: I didn't get my package items! WTH!
Zone: Scrw dis game! They stole from me! Hate this company!
    Zone: LFG *class* T2 FARM
    Zone: LFG *class* T2 FARM

...they usually right click your name and choose "Report spam". Enough of those and there go your chat abilities.

I do not believe there is any rule against requesting for a group in zone. The mute system is based on player reports.

If enough players report you for spam in a short amount of time the system will automatically flag your account as spamming and impose a 24 hour mute. Players must have thought you were posting excessively...or possible had mal intents of their own. :(
If you would like to give feedback on the system please open up a new thread discussing what you like and do not like about the system.

Account related issues such as mutes, can't be solved on the forums and are thus not permitted by the Rules of Conduct.
