It's not sure where they came from-they simply started appearing. Some of them were slipped into an unruly adventurer's pouch while he drank. Others are being distributed by Harpers to agents of good going into dangerous places. Some are picked up by curious wanderers on obscure paths. Some are rocks, some are rings, some are even odder things like a mirror that shows the speakers.
However they appeared in peoples' possessions, they're becoming widespread, especially among adventurers. Small Stones of Sending that don't burn out after a single use, allowing people to chatter back and forth on them. Initial confusion is generally expected, but people pick up on the explanation of magical stones fairly quickly. Whatever the reason, they seem to appear in the possession of the typical adventurer fairly easily, while others find their stones going missing on occasion...
So what does this all mean? It's the IC explanation for an absolutely free-to-everyone channel in Neverwinter. A powerful mage is distributing custom 'Stones of Sending' (As per the Player's Handbook) that don't burn out after a single use. Some aren't strictly stones, but that's mostly flavor for those that want something more intricate.
So for those that are wanting to get connected with more RPers, the channel name is TalkingStones. And for those that aren't familiar with how to join other channels, just type /Channel_Join TalkingStones for it.
