How good is the PVP gear compared to gear that i can get right after hitting lvl 60? (especially the orb)
Even doing the daily pvp and other daily quests lets me madly overlevel the games areas (which i dont like, because the game has been so easy it is almost boring up to lvl 53; only things that are a little bit of a challenge are mad dragon and wolf den), so i would avoid doing more pvp if i would retire the pvp gear shortly after achieving it.
Moreover i don't really like the pvp in this game (and i don't like the idea to grind the glory at 60, getting crushed by fully epic geared guys all the time)
So how good is the pvp gear compared to stuff i could get when hitting 60?
As a control wizard, you'll only be getting crushed if you and/or your team play poorly.
Load Rank3 Iceknife and Rank 3 Eye of the storm.
Fill your action points. Spam whatever until Eye of the Storm pops.
Ice Knife someone. Good for at least 10k. More like 16 on a squishy.
As to whether or not it's worth it?
I can't really say. I did it this morning and it went remarkably fast, in part because of that complimentary Glory Potion, and me running 9.5% glory gain in enchants. All in all, it took me maybe 3-4 hours to get the orb, chest and in 2 more matches I'll have the gloves.
It'd also give your gearscore a boost, if you worry about things like that. I jumped about 2000 points from getting the hat, shoes, chest and orb. The fact that pvp gear has Armor Pen instead of Crit is a bit of a bummer. But I'm not gonna complain. Massive recovery makes me happy.

I hit 60 Friday and had all my gear waiting for me in the bank. I went from 4K gear score to 9.8 and my magic missled went from first hit before stacking bonus, hitting for 300 to nearly 600. Criting for 14K on Arcane stacks. My Ice Knife crit a Rogue for 12K. So yes, unless you want to get crushed in PvP at 60, invest your glory and buy your pieces before you hit 60.
Just nailed another CW for 18K on a Ice Knife attack.
Don't really know what "grind" you are talking about, pvp glory is very easy and fast to earn. Even if you don't really care about pvp. Especially as a CW. Just play the match, you'll probably end up high on the results, even if you aren't very pvp talented (like me), and in a few matches you should have the glory to get piece or two. I have no idea how they rate stats wise, but as long as you aren't afking, go for it. Doing the dailies should be good enough, that's what i do.

If you lose a match (which is given if you have 2 afks), you recieve 180 glory +some for your performance.
The items are 3200-5400 glory each (if i remember right). If you are averaging something like 350 points per game you will need somewhat around 10-14 pvp games per item.
Now, since i lose like 85% of my games because of afks on my teams, i'll need like 20 matches per item.
And i will hate every single second of those matches.
I did play pvp like the whole d*mn day yesterday, loosing game after game because i had 1-3 afks on my team. Got enough glory to buy 2 of the cheaper items.
The term "grind" is probably highly biased in this context, because i dislike the pvp in this game so much. I would rather sit in an empty room staring at the wall than playing this horrible pvp. In my opinion pvp in this game is so disgustingly bad, it makes me want to throw up all over my keyboard after playing it for 5 minutes. (Which doesn't mean im bad, i hit the first place quite a few times. i just hate it)
Now the whole thing will be rolled back, and i'm all in for 1 day of hell on earth again.
But since the PVP gear seems pretty decent and will boost my gearscore quite a bit, i'll do it again.
Sometimes i would really like to be a ******bag who is able to let his whole team down by just afk farming. Sadly i'm not.

The only reason to get the PvP gear, is to raise your gear score so you can start doing T2's. It's the fastest way without having to spend AD on the AH.

Like it's worth the 50k AD you need to get most of the stuff .
Anyway yeah, the PvP gear is worth it even though Recovery is bugged to hell and back again, so don't overinvest it. I had this wicked idea to keep people disabled all the time, but stacking recovery up to -49.7% skill recharge changed 14.7 to 12.7 on my bowling avalanche ball.
