I think voice chat is disabled ;)

It used to be, at least.

It's on again, off again daily it seems. It was working last night.

I do remember the WoW community being pretty bad (immature, elitists, and greedy jerks), but it was ok only if you found a nice static group.

The GW2 community was pretty **** awesome all around. Sure you had your random jerks, but in my experience, the good far outweighed the bad. General chat trolls were ignored, questions were answered honestly, and most PuGs were polite and considerate.

Best community out of all the ones I've tried (which is a considerable amount): Guild Wars 2
Worst by far: This or League of Legends

I agree that games that lack a PvP side tends to have a better community (maybe its the competitive nature of PvP that brings out the I-am/need to be better-then you mentality.

I still say to this day EQ1 had the best gaming community. Plenty of helpful players (free buffs/summoned food/water/armor/free ports/great group interaction). I do miss the older days some times.

Best MMO community I have experienced so far (not in that order): LoTRO, DAoC, STO.

League of Legends has a very toxic community, and, sadly, Neverwinter's community is heading that way.

MMO's without PvP usually have the best communities :)
Dark Age of Camelot and Warhammer Online had the best communities of all times. Two PvPcentered games.

You might wanna rephrase. PvE-MMOs with halfassed PVP on the side have the worst communities.

The best community i have ever seen, was the Battleground Europe community, and that is 100% PvP.

Best so far for me is DDO; especially during the first years on the European servers before f2p kicked in. There were a few elitist guilds and swaggering individuals (aren’t there always), but on the whole people were very friendly and helped one another.
Worst I am afraid seems to be here for now. But I am expecting/hoping it to improve a lot once the instant gratification, narrow minded and greedy locusts move onto feast elsewhere.

I guess it depends on how recent or how long ago. Prior to the F2P model, I would have thought this odd, or that you were lying. Last time I went, even as a veteran, the 'veterans' weren't very...social.
I haven't played it as f2p, I played it from launch took breaks for 6 months or so and came back a couple of times.

Nah I stand by it but obviously I can only speak for games I've played and I didn't play either of the games you mention.

Example would be GW1 in general an awesome community, but PvP'ers talked smack and were abusive in general, I get that it might be how PvP'ers are but it doesn't make for a good community.
Neverwinter Online Open Beta is an ongoing success

The best community I've been a part of was the FFXI community way back in the day. There weren't very many people that were only out for themselves, or would try and screw over others because of how the community reacted to it. Then, a lot of my interaction with people outside of my linkshells (guilds) was on a community run forum that had a lot of pretty good moderators.

Worst community I've dealt with? Probably this one or Tera's.

Best MMO Community: City of Heroes

Between easy acquisition of teaming for RP, Pugs, Raids, Task Forces, or just facerolling mobs and the interconnnected nature that being a Hero put into people, CoH had the best community of any game ever. How many games have had real life heroes created from the forums? The CoH Boards brought up charity drives, people donating computer parts to help low-end gamers improve their rigs, and complete strangers donating thousands of dollars to someone's surgery.

When a real life player died (And several did) it didn't matter who they were: They were given a spotlight on the boards shining on the best things they did, with all deference and respect given to them. Sure we had trolls, but most of them were good natured rather than rampaging bilgesnipes.

And when the game went twilight the forum community exploded into action. Social Media and Venture Capitalists, Disney Interactive... There was a huge outcry that still isn't silenced to this day as the community itself looks to replace what was lost.

Also I wound up in a supergroup with Mercedes Lackey, met my husband playing the game itself, and now know an actor who was on 3 different Star Trek series.

    CoH's community was incredible.

Great Weapon Fighter tanks? Who are you kidding? Cleric tanks. They draw -all- the aggro.
