So I just switched out Orb of Imposition for Eye of the Storm and I feel guilty. Are we suppose to be worrying about control or damage? I see debates with Thaumaturge versus Renegade but never any Oppressor discussions. This does not mean Control Wizards do not put control over damage I suppose, it could just mean Oppressor is bad atm. But I am starting to replace more and more control abilities for damage while continuing to top DPS charts. Maybe I need to get the control word out of my head (I know Wizards are controller over all and Control wizard is a further template along with the dps template War Wizard), I do not know a lot about 4e, and wizards may still do larges amount of damage as controllers. Add in the groups looking for wizards displaying the need for high dps and aoe damage and I feel like I am doing the right thing, yet I feel bad for putting control to the side to increase DPS.
Situational. If your team needs damage and nobody is dealing it. Do it.
You can control and damage, or control. If there is no rogue, then it is up to you to fill both positions to the best of your abilities.
Nessa@gwas - 10,500 Gearscore Control Wizard on Dragon Shard.
4/4 Castle Never legit. 4/4 Shadow Weaver set. 1/2 Ancient Court Magister.
Your skills still do controll or debuff. If you did not want to fokus oh higher damage (yours or your groups depending on the path) you should not have chosen tempest mage as your paragon path.
One important aspect of our control is the ability to do aoe damage effectively, especially so since cleric heal threat is borked and as soon as they throw a heal every add in the room rushes at them, it is mostly up to us and the GWF to save them. Steal time does a wonderful job of both doing aoe dps and aoe control as it stuns things it hits.

You can do both, the 5/10/15% extra cc is nice, but however it is not needed.
With enough recovery, and speced properly you can keep most trash mobs cced while damaging them with a decent rotation. There is no need for more cc on this. (it helps) but getting more damage out helps more imo.
Singularity - Entangeling force (on tab) - Conduit of ice (Talented) - Time steal - Shield explosion
This with enough mobs can allow you to keep endlessly throwing mobs around or into the air.
Granted i am speced heavy into recovery (and + wis) And have pretty quick cooldowns, and ap gain.
Also get a lightning enchant in your weapon, it will double your dps.
Like others have said, it's definitely situational. I blend control and damage 50-50. If my groups needs Elites dispatched quickly, I can do it, or vice verse with control. Practice using the different combination of abilities with your class features. That way in any area, dungeon, skirmish, or PvP etc - You'll know exactly what combos you need to use to dispatch enemies.

orb of imposition is pretty much useless in t2's. adds have so much health you aren't going to be killing all of them during the length of any control power we have unless the entire team is focusing that one add. it doesn't increase the length of arcane singularity nor how far shield will toss them away.

Thanks for the input thus far guys! I recall back to DDO when player kills where list on the score sheet of a dungeon but it meant nothing overall. So I see all this DPS I am doing and wondering if it is meaningful or just fluff versus a rogue killing mobs fast (not over looking the GWF.) Overall I feel this is not the case thus far, and I am able to justify the damage done by killing add swarms in boss fights that seemed to replace, to a degree, not standing on a fire. Part of our CC I feel is mowing down all of the minion adds before they overwhelm the group. ^ ^
