Why two classes?

It is a thing of the BETA, or Fighter will continue divided as two classes?

Why not make a single class with optional tank (weapon and shield) or dps (great weapon)? If this is the standard game, there will be two classes Ranger (melee and ranged?).

I think it would be cool to give the option to the player about what role he wants to play.

Otherwise, the game is very good, congratulations!
Expect the best, prepare for the worst, and face whatever comes!

All classes in Neverwinter are actual specialisations (or whatever the proper D&D4e term for it is) of 4e classes. The classes are going to remain split, they have different shift utility, tab utility and vastly different powers and feats and wear different armor (plate for guardians, scale for GWF). We already know from data mining that Archer Ranger is one of the upcoming classes, if there will be a melee ranger along the way, it will be it's own class as well.
