Is Zork a violation?

Anyone know if doing a Foundry homage to Zork would be verboten?

I'm guessing it's against TOS, but it'd be so funny to have places that are very dark. You are likely to be eaten by a grue...

    I wouldn't call it Zork, as that is a protected name. You could included elements from Zork in the quest, like grues (which are not original to Zork) and really dark areas filled with encounters so that someone who is familiar with the game would get the references.

    How about the flow of the adventure, like flood control dam #3, etc?

    So no protected names, but the adventure unfolds mostly the same?

    You're really starting to drift into the 'ask a lawyer' zone :P "Inspired by" and "copy" are seperated by a very, very thin line. My personal take? Given the drastic alterations needed to get something inspired by Zork into the foundry, I think you'll be ok as long as you don't use any proper nouns from the game. But I'm not Cryptic, and they might think differently. Keep in mind that the quest Blood and Sand (at least I think that was the title) was taken down because it names from Conan in there.

    The rule of thumb is: If you have to ask, it's probably not a good idea to do it.

    Yeah, and I'd hate to put in all that work and have it taken down.
