Can't find a friend on the same server?

I joined the game about 5 days ago, and my wife just started her character this morning. While I have confirmed we are both on the same server, when I try to friend her, the game says she cannot be found. This is while I am looking over at her screen and she is standing in the same spot as I in town.

Any ideas why this might be happening?

hit 'M' and change instances to the same instance she is in. Think of it like she is in the same place in an alternate reality. You have to travel to her reality to meet in person.

I have absolutely no idea, I don't think I've ever heard anything like that. Therefore, I'm almost certain the game has become self aware and is trying to prevent you two from being together. Are you just gonna sit there and let a game tell you that you can't be friends with your wife?! Or are you gonna man up and solve this problem like a real man!

Have you tried relogging?

There's a way you can join their instance but I can't remember how to do that so here's another way.

See the map on the top right?
There's a crystal thingy to the top right of that. Click that and a window should appear which would show a bunch of instances.

Click whichever and make sure your wife clicks the same. Then try to friend them.

if you hit 'O' and right click on her name, it might pull up a menu where you can see what instance she is in as well as what map. And I usually have the option to teleport to my buddies instances from that menu as long as were in the same map. Other than that, she can hover over the minimap and it should say which number instance she is in. I might be wrong on the hover over minimap thing though, I'm not on the game right now, and I havent had to change my instance in forever.
