In my current guild everyone needs on everything, even stuff they can't use.
Joining a guild doesn't necessarily change anything.
The loot system needs to be changed full stop. Needing on gear = it gets bound to you. Why should honest players have to sink to these greedy kids' level or have to join a guild to "try" and prevent anyone from acting like a greedy prick?

1. Find guild.
2. Run with said guild.
3. ???
4. Profit.
It's not hard people, but a little common sense goes a long way.
Being in good guild is definitely a good thing.
But it doesn't excuse pitiful game design.
Nobody should be able to need on things they can't use. Period. If you can't use it, it should be greed or pass only. Even if the one person that can use it abuses the system (by rolling need on something they don't actually need), it's better than 4 out of 5 abusing it or even one person abusing it and denying someone something they can use. It would take almost no effort to write some code to detect this kind of situation: class-specific piece drops, check to see if people of that class in the group have that piece already, if not, those of the class can need, otherwise it's all out greed. End of story. There is no reason to allow this to fall to the poor decision making of greedy players.

If you're going to put chests in group content, be consistent and either let everyone tap the chest (as you can in dungeons and instances but cannot in skirmishes) or make it so that chests are rolled on or the contents are rolled on. Or remove the chests. Foundry runs don't have chests and are perfectly fun. Providing another way for greedy people to suck isn't fun.
What's very sad is it's not like this is the first MMO ever made or the first time people have been greedy in MMOs. It's been going on forever. You can either be a smart game designer and create logical systems that are the most fair for the most people, or you can be oblivious and repeat the same fail from other poorly designed MMOs (most of which change over time to suck less...but why start off with suck when you can learn from history and not suck).
Hey bro, can you please tell me which auction house I can spend gold on items? Yup, thats right...you didn't even think about it but it could possibly be the reason that none of the items are BOP because...this will blow your mind....ASTRAL DIAMONDS DO NOT DROP IN GAME!!! Yup, thats the possible reason. As AD is only used in auction house, that means...its intentional to stimulate trade? To keep the currency of trade in low supply and high demand? That AD is only, and I repeat...ONLY AVAILABLE FROM CASH PACKAGES and a paltry reward from skirmishes. Yup, it does make sense...that the system is working as intended. Trading items in in the auction house, that only trade in AD for item and is taxed to further keep the AD supply low (its a small tax, but it slows the growth), given by CASH PACKAGE (<-- big hint! business = profit, not a charity organization)...I would say just stop getting butthurt and roll on everything, sell in the auction house, buy your items you need, and just stop getting so butthurt.
Fck, I know this entire post sounds like tinfoil hat conspiracy...but being that this game is F2P and the auction house is tied to a currency that is available in larger quanties from real world cash then skirmishes...yeah, it makes sense in a way. Cause if its need only, that means you don't even pay to support the company, you get what you want in gear, and the game goes down the toilet within a few months because everyone will be walking around in the best equipment...why would even the free to play crowd need to pay? Could the paying crowd support the rest of the population by themselves, yet they can get the same gear for free? EVERYONE CAN GET THE SAME GEAR WITH BOP AND "HONOR/PASS" enforced on the public, because everyone will feel that karma is a good currency then paying the utility bills to support the game company...so in fact BOP is not a good idea.
I foresee in the future a token system where everyone gets rewarded, turn those tokens in for a box, with the RNG further guaranteeing that instead of getting one item from another class that you can sell, you get lots of random HAMSTER you do not want meaning you grind more. OH yeah, that sounds like such a better system.

Agreed.
I just did a skirmish and the first green that drops was greeded on by the first 4 rollers, and needed on by the next, who happened to be plenty above level for the place and definitely doesn't need anything there (they also jumped on every chest first since they've done the content enough to be ready for that...additional lameness and HAMSTER design).
After that, most people needed on everything that could be rolled on. You have no choice. You either sink to the level of the greedy piece of human trash that starts it, or you let them heist all the loot.
It is garbage game design.
You know there are going to be scumbags playing MMOs - there always is - and you know that with F2P the bar is lowered even more because people who pay nothing have zero reason to give a HAMSTER about other players or any punishments. So as a game designer you need to pull your head out and design things that are scumbag proof.

did u think they may have needed on an item they cant use for vendor spec or maybe crafting ?
Why the hell do we even get to choose? Loot should be random period. If you want the **** drop and you didn't get it, buy it from the person that did. Or hmm, maybe do another run?
Here's an idea....party leader set loot drops for round robin. That'll stop the needing.

I ask them nicely and it work. When they got the item I need, I message them asking if I could have it. There's a lot of nice people as well that gives you the item if you need it.

I agree with the OP.i assume that more people will get ninja'd the more complaining posts will pop up.I already answered another guy here on the forum, the current system is fine as it is now.I don't see why people complaining. It feels all of these complains roots from the fact that they got ninja'd and they can't get over it so they come here to complain.
It is an MMO which based on the law of large numbers so eventually it WILL happen to you too (no exceptions).More ppl will play higher the chance it will be.Even it sounds stupid but it can be add more value to your gameplay. After you get f***d up a few times on your loot wouldn't be feel more satiysfing when you finally get your desired item? It just gives more value for your item .
I was in a rage when i got ninja'd but after the red mist gone i just continued playing and eventually got the item.I think it is just depends on the personalities of people how they can handle these situations.
So all in all yes i'm fine with the current loot system.
