Issues with creating a character

Whenever I try to create a new character, the models that show up on the screen are zoomed in to a ridiculous degree. I literally cannot make out what my character looks like when I'm choosing their appearance, and when I choose their race you cannot see the whole character. The character's model will also eventually just slide off screen. It's really annoying.
It's been like this since I made my first character.
