Learn, please for the love of god learn.

Lock your website during maintenance.

All that happens is flaming between people on why your servers are down and why they are entitled to your product 24/7 (10 days into beta).

See what I did there?

Lock your entire website and have a message for your game saying "Maintenance from X time to X time." Always and I mean ALWAYS over exaggerate. People feel wronged when you say X - X then have an extension. However, they will praise you if you bring your servers up early every time.

I do not personally care how long your maintenance is. I prefer a stable environment in which to play. It also being beta means I expect servers to be down.

Right. Cause locking their website would go over so well. They wouldn't lose a HAMSTER ton of players over something like that or anything.

    How would they lose players?

You simply put an "Under Construction" like page on their front page.

    "Mind boggled"

It's bad enough I can't craft at work. Not being able to look busy and reply to threads like this would suck! :)

I'd have to go to CNN or TMZ to keep busy!

It's not about "calling mommy". Its about creating a toxic community. All that is happening is the promotion of negativity amongst PWE's consumers. This is actually something every company should do to protect their product. The human mind is fragile and those who don't have complete control over it jump off the deep end and in turn will quit playing their product. It's a business decision. Not a time for the ignorant average person to make ill-informed comments.

try doing that with a real company, see where it gets ya... Really, if you are so business smart, why are you wasting time here!? Actually having the website shut down would kill 3/4 or more of the community pretty fast... Thing is, one does not simply shut ppl up on 2013 mate... You should find a travel machine and go back to the 15th century, you would feel better

Which is a much better place and less publicly known then their own website tbh. Not that many people are their "fans on facebook" compared to how many play the game.

But you see my point instead of having a civil discussion/debate people get "Flamey" instantly.

Also I'm talking about locking the website during maintenance not afterwards. You are not killing the community if they cannot use their forums for 3-5 hours.

All they need to do is Charge like 600 Zen for Website access and that would get rid of all the whiners :)

Having the server status page actually reflect the state of the servers would be SO cool.
