Why gaming companies even bother any more

Why do game companies bother any more? No matter how much work they put in, no matter how good their ideas are, no matter their goal. Its just never good enough any longer, people complain... this is wrong, that is wrong... yet those people aren't the ones making the games. They are not the talent behind the company that develops, markets, supports and creates a game bringing it into the world..

No they are just a bunch of people sitting in their little lives complaining, never just enjoying something for what it is. Yes a company has a goal to make money, shocking, why wouldn't they, for it takes money to create and support something. Even if the game could be created at no cost and was handed to the world for absolute free, people would complain.

From Tabletop, Console to Computer the common gamer just over all suck these days... always complaining about the mechanics, the systems.. anything everything, as if only their individual opinions matter and are fact on what is correct in a game system.

Well let me say, as a person who when to school, work in the industry and knows that nothing is perfect but all can be enjoyed and that enjoyment is what should be key.. gaming, having fun, hanging with friends (Yes this is my own opinion and like a butt hole we all have em and that does not make it fact). I want to say thank you, thank you to the guys who sat down and discussed this idea, who wrote it up, who brought the concept to life, got it funded, put together the teams who worked their butts off and still are in pipelines making deadlines and creating a game worth playing.

For all those people from in the 70's who inspired rolling dice, to those who created consoled and pc games to mmo's and beyond... because once upon a time we just enjoyed playing the games and while we strive to improve, there are those who can do it with out constant complaining, whining, dissing and be constructive to grow and keep gaming a growing community.

I would rather be a part of that world, than the masses that simple fill their lives with the goals of finding every aspect that is not absolute protectionism in their own eye and respond with negativity, vulgarity, slander, childish behavior and uneducated complaints.

Keep up the good work Cryptic Studios! I thank you for bothering to trudge forward in a world that rather complain than compliment in the over all masses.

This isn't the case for all complaint threads, some may be legit players who are actually frustrated and needed to write about it. But did you know that other game companies out there actually pay their employees to play their competition's games and in some cases they actually pay'em to act like jerks and ruin the community?

I don't wanna name any names, but I know someone that worked for a respectable game company who was given a fully paid WoW account by the company he works for and was asked to go into WoW and disrupt the peace and complain about how WoW sucked all the time on their forums. :)

Anyways, just keep that in mind the next time you see an excessive amount of complaint threads on the forums or ingame, especially for a F2P MMORPG. Many of them may not even be legit complaints and you can usually point them out too! Some forum troll that just writes: "OMG THIS GAME SUCKS! THE GRAPHICS ARE UGLY!!! WORST GAME I EVER PLAYED! BOOO! /thread" ... well... either he's a really dumb troll or... yup... you guessed it... a hired goon from the competitors! :)

I have no issue with complaints that are made with constructive mentality to help, you know ones made in the bugs forum or support forum that have a true agenda to actually help not just complain.

As for companies paying employees to perform deeds of that type I can say I have never heard of that nor seen that anywhere i have been. I would hope people do not do such a thing, but honestly in this world I could see it happening... sadly.

I can see this happening, especially now with how saturated the MMO market has become.

For the players who are illegitimately complaining I can sympathize with them. But, I take those complaints with a grain of salt. You can always tell when its legit and when it is made up fodder that is just ridiculous.

I will agree with the OP and say that this is one of the best f2p mmo's I've played.

They they "still bother" because when a decent product is made they get profits. At the end of the day the criticism or praise on these boards is just a tiny fraction of the gaming population. Not to say it is never indicative of a larger opinion, but one thing is for sure and that id there will alwayd be complaints. I remember in UO and EQ the outrage was unreal. Reading messageboards and forums you would think they should be bankrupt in a week. Yet they were the two online mmo that paved the way (yes I know they were not the first but there is a good argument they were the first to show how profitable it could be. Then WoW really took the genre to mainstream, but the hatred of it among many was everywhere.

My point is these forums are not the judge of success....and clearly the developers understand that. The judge of thei success is all about profits. If they are still here in a couple years then it was probably a success.

Substitute "Fool" for "Please" and you will have the real quote.

Passion man...yah...It gets buried behind the corporate juggernauts like EA and Activision, and a few guys get all the glory like the Biowares & Infinity Wards...but somewhere underneath that giant mess of commercial corporate yuck is a small ember of passion for gaming. Making games..fun.

It's the players' job to complain. If no one complained, then where would we be?
