making caves even darker

Does anybody have any tips for making cave environments even darker? I went into the properties of these rooms and selected the "No Lights" option, and that works pretty well, but I'm putting interactable braziers in the cave, and I really want there to be an incentive to the user to light them.

I've got some dust floating around right now, but that's about it. I just kind of want the darkness to feel oppressive.

I've been thinking about this too. There might be a black fog/mist somewhere in details. Not sure though, as I've put off working on it until I get to that part in the story.

I'm probably going to blow my details budget on this series of caves, but I've taken to adding some snow gust effects to cloud things up in there, and it looks pretty cool. I'm also adding some ground dust and various nods where dust kicks up when the player runs through it.

If you add the large volume ground dust (called FX - Ground Dust 01, 161 x 161 ft) in the same room that you've added some snow gusts, the effect is actually amazing I think. The particles intermingle, and it's quite impenetrable.

Apart from that, I'm probably going to make lighting the braziers part of the quest.

Okay, bumping this with the same question, except about interior rooms. I've got an interior house setting in which I turned off the lights, but there's still enough ambient light that it is kind of making it difficult to do what I want to do. Basically, I want to encourage the player to drag a lit torch from one of the back rooms into the main room, so that the room details can be seen. But the thing is, it's just not dark enough with all the lights off.

Where it really mattered in a corner of the main room, I was able to put a large black depthfade, but I can't put those everywhere. So does anybody have any suggestions?

I can't get away with the same tricks I used in my caves, because it just doesn't make a lot of sense to have snow and dust swirling around inside a house.
