Strait up answer needed: Can GWF main tank at end game?

Currently I'm torn between Control Wizard and Great Weapon fighter. On the one hand, I really like the DPS capabilities of both classes, with the CW having the slight advantage of range and CC. While I also VERY much enjoy the melee style of GWF.

For me both are equally good. All I really need to know before I start sinking some serious time into one or the other is if GWF has the capability to tank well in end game content. The CW obviously is not meant to do this, and is clearly focused on DPS and crowd control. But the GWF has what appears to be several skill and a path devoted to tanky-style abilities and passives.

Is this just intended so the GWF can survive in melee and off-tank? Or are we talking about real main tank capability here?

Any input on this matter would be greatly appreciated! :D

GWF's end-game is to work with CW's to clear mobs, and protect the healer while the TR and GF down the boss. GWF's are heavy AoE DPS, their job is to kill adds. You won't tank, or beat DPS on Rogues, but their function, if done well, is very helpful.

GWF isn't a Tank class in a pure sense. Think Off Tank-taking out all the yard trash so the real Tank can do his/her job. In 4e they are a Striker, although that might not mean much.

GWF can't really tank at all. Best works as an initial hit soaker, then a snare bot with slam.

As a healer, I will say that the GWF's don't work well as tanks. You can roll the epic Crypt for seals and complete it but that is the only I can think that anyone would want to be in without a tank.
