So what is considered launch??

i have read about the drow race being playable about 60 days after launch. So is the open beta the launch or is there going to be an "official" launch in the near future?

    There will be an "official" launch in the future. Open beta isn't considered launch.

    This is considered a "soft launch", it's not technically a launch and is still in beta, but the reasons companies do it is varied and related to contracts, licences and other complex business things. It's why some games get released before people think they are really finished, but MMO's allow a more flexible release. It's out, people can play, contracts are upheld, but there are still kinks to work out. So, long story short, until a dev pipes up, consider this release for when the drow will be available, end of june beginning of July.
