I have tried to change the looks of some items using the "change appearance" option, and so many say "you have no items of this type", when i know for a fact i have other items. Say, i have boots of the unicorn, but got better ones, i happen to like the look of the unicorn ones, but it won't let me put their look on the new boots. Is it because i dyed it? Do i have to have non-dyed items? I tailored some items to see, and it let me put the white items as looks, but not better than white. Can we only use white items as templates? That would be terrible, as those all look the same.
I've look all over for answers to this, but haven't found anything. If anyone can help, that would be great.
Yeah... no one has responded to this, yet I have the same inquiry. I think I"m going to post it in the bugs section instead... maybe someone will look at it. Not sure if it IS a bug, but it seems like it's not working the way it should be.

As long as you are allowed to equip that certain piece of gear you want to transmog to AND it is not soulbound, it should work.
Otherwise you have to get a new copy of that piece of gear to use its looks.

If the item you are wearing is dyed and the item you are using as a skin is not, then the dyes remain.
If the item you are using as a skin is dyed, then the colors will carry over.
Sometimes you have to drag and drop the 'skin item' over tho, not just click 'change appearance' (which usually lists available dyes)
