(Please read till the end, I'm far from being all negative.)

First I would like to say that I don't like Cryptic, they deceived a lot of gamers with CO even thought it still alive, And I've heard some really scary **** about STO but didn't played that one myself.

And I don't like Perfect World Entertainment either mainly because I had bad customer support a few times in the past, and despite all the fixes and work around there is at least 3 of the games they distribute I simply can't get to work ;Launcher crashes, Can't log in to account from clients, windows getting stretched so much outside the 4 screen borders I have to force close the client... and a few other spooky ghost stories.

So when I learned both of them were Behind Neverwinter... I was afraid.

My last D&D experience on PC was DDO. It wasn't THAT bad, But was poorly thought, Some of the D&D aspects Didn't "blend" with the "fun factor" of video games...Others were "OK".

So again with another D&D mmo, I was plain scared & doubtful about trying it.To me the reason of free vs $$$ doesn't change a single thing about any games if its fun,its fun and I may pay/play it.

I'm a Huge gamer, and I don't mean only video games. I like lots and lots of games... I even enjoy playing Scrabbles...

I played lots of MMOs since EQ1, almost all of them & I played lots of Pen & Paper D&D/Homebrews in my youth.

And this game so far is ALL but deceiving from an open beta/soft launch point of view.

1:Dungeon Crawling/Story is nice.
2:Questing is smooth and mostly well thought.
3:The general scenery for those that will take the time to enjoy it is amazing so far.
4:The pvp is nice although I'd like more map variety.
And
5:the Foundry is the perfect tool for a D&D game, in fact its what sold it to me.

I'm even amazed at the speed & efficiency at which some of the problems are getting fixed & patched.

This game is a "Gemstone" it needs some more polishing even thought its already pretty & shiny. It also needs the right crafter to handle with care so it doesn't get wasted on poor quality jewelry.

But so far the potential is impressive. Good Job Cryptic & PWE seriously so far Good job.

Now there is the $$$ vs Free problem.

You can enjoy this game for free for some time, probably more than most trials/demos/betas. But its meant to be paid for don't hide behind the free to play thing. Look where you should invest your 60$ before taking a decision but that's the price of a game now a days. And its at least what it'll cost you to enjoy the full experience. You could buy a Founder pack, or Buy Zen & sell them for crystals or buy storage/inventory slots with it or whatever there is a lot of "flexibility" on which aspects of the game you'd like to upgrade/pay for.

I started buying D&D User manual with the first monster manual of the second edition which in french costed 40$ in the 90's. I have ALL the 3rd editions books... Do the maths.

I was a magic the Gathering player, At some point I owned over 10k cards. Bought over 6 years. 15 card per booster 3$ a booster, again do the maths. I was 12 at that time so I swear I had a lot of "Quests" to turn in to gather those 3$.

What I'm trying to picture here, you value your entertainment like you want. But I spent much more than what you'd need to spend on this game to enjoy it, on a lot of stupid stuff just for the heck of it.

At this stage for those who can afford it this game is we'll worth at least 100$ of entertainment only playtime wise & to recognize the hard work done. And consider those are One time cost if we'll spent. How much peoples played WoW, bought the 5 releases and paid 6-8 years of sub without even blinking ? Again... do the maths.

So again this game is a jewel for those of you that know where to look.

My biggest dissapointment about the game is the absence of PVP map Foundry, and the lack of PVP variety CTF/All out Wars/Sieges... anything but not only Capture & Defend. But that's something that will be sorted out in time. After all this game just "Opened" to everyone. And anyway to me D&D is more about dungeon delving than PvP and the game delivers at that.

Another dissapointement is character variety, weapons choices, skill choices, I feel locked to a character build, and that's not D&D at all.

My main concern about the game is mostly the spoiled WoW/Net Kiddies coming over crying rivers of debilitating threads and posts and that Cryptic/PWE listens to them and ruins the game. Only time will tell.

There is place for improvements to make this game even more like D&D and there is place to make this game plain better. But in general I'm enjoying the ride so far.

Until then, thanks for the read if you got to the end of this long post you deserve at least a cookie ;)

So far, the game itself is enjoyable, yes it has some issue's but what game doesn't at this stage. My only complaint is the GM/Support end seems pretty lackluster currently. I have had three tickets in for a week now and heard nothing, yet all three are marked as if they were responded to and fixed, I have no emails, no ingame mail, nothing.

Other then that I am enjoying the game quite a bit and if they could address my tickets it would be even better.

Oh and putting in some gamepad support would also be better, there is ways around it and gamepads are usable but having the ingame support would be better.
