Is anyone else a bit upset at how Perfect World/Cryptic went about advertising the 'race'? In the picture, as-well as all of the videos, you see the Renegade as a rather lighter skinned character and in this picture, from the website, with baby blue eyes. It seems like they used a tan Wood Elf to do the ad for the Renegade due to the baby blue eyes. I don't have a total problem with this but I am quite disappointed that they have falsely advertised the 'race'.
If I'm wrong, feel free to let me know. These are just my thoughts on the situation, I'll still be gladly playing the game.

It depends on why you're objecting, why you're calling it false advertising.
Drow in game can have skin that light, though the closet to blue you can get is a variety of shades of purple. Wood Elves can have dark skin, but not quite that shade - they have a lot more red in their skin tone... However, they can have blue eyes as in the picture.
You can choose pretty dark skin tones for Drow, though. Both of mine have the darkest colour available.

I mean, it really isn't a huge issue for me, I've just been a bit curious of it, you know? I went with a light brownish skin tone and wasn't planning to use the baby blue for the eyes but I wouldn't mind having the option like they show in the ads.
See my previous post :P hah
Lore establishes drow as all having glossy jet black skin, and most of them have crimson eyes. They're also known to have white, lilac, and amber colours for eyes too.
As of the end of 3rd Edition, the drow race split into two due to the "redemption" of a portion of the race. The redeemed drow are called Dark Elves and probably have similar colouring to what you're going for there. Drow retain their original colouring.
I have no idea what lore Cryptic are adhering too in this game, because the very fact that we can play non-Lolthite Drow (without them being specifically mentioned as Corellon and other god worshipping Dark Elves) at all is kind of contrary to lore.
(Please note, I am not a 4th edition expert. I rather loathed what they did to the setting, so if there's been any changes to the status quo as I've mentioned it, I'm sorry.)
I haven't yet played the game I have an aversion for paying for f2p games, sue me, so I wouldn't know if they have got him right or not.
You should probably read up on the lore since this is a 4th edition game. I'm guessing you have the best of intentions so this isn't a slam, but if you want to talk about what's right for a race/class/deity etc you'd have to use the edition the game is based on to be accurate.
I reiterated what was the status quo with 4th Edition (though it was just those Drow who could trace their line back through the Miyeritar who became Dark Elves - but I'm pretty sure Lolth lost a lot of her presence on the surface and most surface non-Miyeritar Drow returned to the underdark at her command). I just hadn't heard of any more shake ups since then.
This is all moot anyway. 5th Edition (DnD Next) is due out later this year, and I hear whispers of another RSE (called "the Sundering", which is confusing because the Realms already had a sundering far in the past, but this is definitely a new one)... I have a feeling that we'll see some (maybe even a lot) of what was done to the Realms for 4th Edition reversed (at the very least Mystra will be back - given that she is back as of the end of the current Elminster novel Elminster Enraged).
Except for all the terrible cover art for novels that make them freakin' purple or mocha-elves. As for 4th edition, drow are just another race, like shardminds, revenants and pixies. Most drow still worship Lolth though.

Drow stand just shy of human height and have slender,
athletic builds. Physically, they resemble eladrin,
with wiry builds, pleasing features, and midnight
black skin that has a blue cast. Their eyes are fiery
red, lavender, or blue. All drow have white hair, which
most keep long and decorate with intricate pins and webbing wrought from precious metals. Aside from
their tresses and eyebrows, drow have little facial hair,
though males sometimes grow long sideburns or tufts
of wispy hair on their cheeks and chins.
The "dark elves" per canon 4E FR are statistically no different than Eladrin, even have the same racials. The "elf" subraces (while many) only have three categories:
Drow Elf
- Drow
Wood Elf
- Wild elves
- Green elves
- several other "subraces" mentioned in 3ED, such as aquatic elves, and now scrapped.
Eladrin ("High" elves)
- Gray, Silver, Moon Elf
- Gold, High, Sun Elf
- Star Elves
- Avariel
- A number of other "offshoots" mentioned in 3ED and now scrapped.
Fey'ri only exist as a homebrew (and a pretty balanced one) in 4ED, so "officially", I believe that they've been Disavowed and relegated to "tiefling".
Fanboys chime in and say HAMSTER like "Nope! Drow can have all kinds of skin colors now1 just like us!!" No..Drow have ebon black skin. That's all there is to it. I have no idea what Cryptic is doing with their art team on this one. Did they even try models with deep black skin? Probably not. Obviously not a huge deal, but I'm of the belief that if you're going to do something, DO IT. I'm glad I didn't pay $200 for this farce of a Drow race.
Edit: though I do agree the art team should have stuck to lore appearance-wise. So many ashy Drow running around. There shouldn't be Drow in this game at all. How many friendly and accepted Drow exist in Faerun? Two? Drizzt Do'Urden and Tos'un Armgo? All others are kill on sight. Maybe something changed in 4th edition, but it's stupid either way.
According to the trolls on this forum the log in screen having the colors red and black, is a scheme to get more money.
