Im trying to figure out if my character is going to be hindered or gimped in any way if I never obtain lockbox items either from boxes themselves, or from purchasing them off the trading house?
Are there any essential items from these boxes that Im going to find myself needing in order to make my character feel competitive (in both pve and pvp) at higher levels?

I dont think the lock boxes really have anything great in them. You can hover your mouse over the box and it will tell you what you can get with it. Or a chance to get anyway.

Nope. And it all comes down to what u want from a game. Are you out for fun and enjoyment? Or a power gamer, having to be the best at everything. The first at everything. Inflate your Epeeeeen.
If it's about fun, then play it for fun. I enjoy sports, but I"m not a professional at any. Does it mean I get less enjoyment because millions of people don't know my name or I'm not on TV. To each their own. Play the game for what u want out of it, not for what others want.
I was mostly concerned that id hit some kind of roadblock. For example. If I got into crafting, and was trying to raise my skill, and found out that to advance to the next stage of crafting, required materials only found in lockboxes. Or something similar to that.
Nope, not at all... level 54 and haven't spent money on anything that helped me in any way (yes I unlocked some lockboxes, but the rewards didn't make a HUGE difference or simplify the game really any, so I killed things 5 seconds faster, big deal).
Only thing I see that MAY require monetary outlay is the crafting implements (sheers, etc.), as I haven't found any beyond the basic set you buy from the vendor and which are not upgradable like the others, though those very well may come from the boxes you get via leadership.

It is all about the grind. You can grind for everything that you need. THAT INCLUDE Zen/AD items. You can get rough diamonds and convert them to AD then later buy Zen. It is a long grind but it is POSSIBLE. Some people (like me) don't like to grind THAT much and spend some cash to get Zen. I still grind but not as heavy as some other players.

Please review my campaign and I'll return the favor.
