Back in Champions Online, there were a ton of people that were interested in pvp and it literally took years to get updates to those facets of the game.
Please, let's not repeat the same mistake - a lot of people are interested in pvp in this game as well, please try your best.
Polls have been launched. PvP is an afterthought, if that, in D&D...
Since 1974 tabletop through today, D&D has been about PvE, adventuring, grouping and questing... this game is following the same paths that has made true D&D the product that has entranced millions of gamers over decades of play.
This is not your standard MMO. This is not your PvP mmo.
How many topics must the same people start to get this point across.

I agree with lich. D&D is about forging stories and adventures. It is extremely PvE oriented. PvP is an afterthought.
I realize it is not the main focus. I think you underestimate how many people actually do play pvp.
BTW: Aion sucks

I'd like to see the ability to make PvP maps and games in the foundry. Let the PvE players complain all they want, they have been catered to in all MMOs, they won't expect any less in Neverwinter.

This is not D&D PnP!
And stop being a troll lich. You can't tell people this game is not their games.
The game has PvP and DEVs talk about PvP at interviews, including some kind of PvP we didn't see yet.
Stop being discontructive in all topics people want to talk about PvP.
Unfortunately I didn't play CO but I hope Cryptic get some tips about PvP with PWE which have good PvP systems in my opinion. Although I want them to improve it and not only copy and from what I saw until now I think they can do it great.
I quite like optional PvP in MMOs and I think it offers a nice change of pace, or a break from the usual, and provides relatively resource-friendly end game content. PvE requires frequently new content (which here the Foundry should address) whereas with a proper framework a pawful of PvP maps can last for years. As long as it is optional, I think variety and choice are always good, even if they may not appeal to everyone equally.
I realize it is not the main focus. I think you underestimate how many people actually do play pvp.
BTW: Aion sucks
Everybody likes PvP;
but this isn't a PvP oriented game. There are way more aspects of the game (important ones, might I add) that need to be taken into consideration first; aspects that stay true to the PvE nature of D&D.
Aion sucks NOW;
before it was good when the factions were balanced.
Point 2: PvP in Foundry ? You do realize it is instanced content... HOWEVER, I can see mixing pvp battles with live mobs in a dungeon can have an attraction...
Point 3: You PvP players need to understand something. We are only entering Open Beta.... KEYWORD: BETA... The ACTUAL game hasn't even been finished yet and not all the classes have even been put into the game. How can you even BEGIN to think about PvP and balancing is.. putting it lightly.... borderline retardation.... The Game needs to get finished first and classes need to be implemented and the world needs to be tested and quests need to be implemented and NPC's need to be added and spells and abilities need to be drawn into the game.... Get off your PvP horse and realize, the game is not even ANYWHERE near completed yet.
And stop being a troll lich. You can't tell people this game is not their games.
Anyone who has picked up a PHB can tell people Dungeons and Dragons is not a PvP based game
Oh you'll get your PvP... and according to the Dev's.. You'll get it when everything else has been finished because Dungeons & dragons is not BASED off of PvP.... thats the point I am stressing.
PvP players want this game to have a PvP foundation based off their discussions, topics and posts.... but your beating your head against a wall because...
D&D is not PvP...
Explaning what the core base of Dungeons and Dragons is, is not trolling...
Don't worry folks, PvP is not an afterthought. Lich is just expressing his views, nothing official.
First of all the polls that were put up are a small demographic. I am sure that PvP is in the game because Cryptic knows there is value in it, otherwise why would it be there? Secondly, all you have to do is log into the most popular western MMO to date and look at the population of RP servers to PvP servers to know who the bigger demographic is. Thirdly, it don't matter what YOU think PnP DnD is, at its heart it has ALWAYS been PvP. DM's versus the party, plain and simple. It was always about them matching wits against each other in a good natured, fun, and fair way. Lastly, the devs love PvP and talk about how much they test it and enjoy it in Neverwinter.
Oh BTW, they have also talked about doing PvP maps in the foundry, it is in the plans for the future.
Just because YOU, yes you, Lich. Just because you THINK anything does not make it so. Thank god that the developer is not so narrow minded. There is plenty of room in Neverwinter for all. PvE, PvP, RP, Raiding, whatever. I agree that the main focus of the game should be on PvE and that it is the largest demographic, however to completely discount PvP would be silly. I really never understood why people attack the PvP community, it is voluntary, if you don't like it then just don't participate in it. Cryptic will have statistics on how many hours are spent in PvP versus PvE and I am sure they will put the development dollars where it makes the most sense. This is not YOUR game, this is OUR game. Show a little respect for something bigger than your own selfish desires.

The only reason people are slamming pvp is because it tends to attract the dreaded epeen swinging, LEET skillz, nub pwning, nerf screaming pvpers that run rampant in any game with organized, and ranked, pvp.
I can't tell you how many times I've seen "Oh, you haven't even achieved **** rating? STFU nub, get owned." and most would prefer to let those brand of players stay where they are.
Please don't bring up that waste of effort (Aion) as I played for the first year it was out before ditching it due to developer inattention or consideration for their player base.
1 - I would hope this is a PVE based game. Though I have yet to see anything pointing the majority of focus in that direction as an outright statement from cryptic/PWE
2 - They can do whatever they want with regard to pvp as long as they take seriously the large number of posts by people about them not HAMSTER with pve to cater to pvp. I've posted a few times myself that they need 2 different skillsets, each with the same exact skills for each class. One skillset is active while in pve, the other becomes active while in pvp. The player doesn't and shouldn't have to do anything. The damage/duration/range/effects of each skill should switch seamlessly. That way they can tweak one skillset without affecting the other skillset in any way.
Even with the extra implementation for them to do this, overall, I would think they'd have way less headache from the playerbase at large about nerfs/tweaks/adjustments to do with one side and not the other. They have already headed down this path with the adjustments to CW's cc spell duration between pve and pvp. CC duration is longer in pve and shorter in pvp. I just think they need to take it a step further and duplicate EVERY skill.
If you can't be constructive in your criticism, go back to world-of-whiners.
However, Neverwinter shouldn't be the game that has "those" PvP baddies who literally do nothing but PvP and talk about how many people they can own~
Why not? I don't see a difference between those people and pure PvE players who sit all day at the bank and flaunt their shiny items. If someone has self esteem issues, the results will be tedious whether they prefer PvP or PvE. Someone going on about how they "pwn" everyone is no less obnoxious than someone who blathers on about their gear score or how much "deeps" they do.
I actually never really met anyone who only did PvP and nothing else in MMOs that supported both. PvP players tend to be good at PvE because of their sense of awareness and command of the class they play, but they may just prefer PvP for the variety and lesser predictability. PvP does tend to bring out more hostility (all that testosterone), but in general it is just an additional way of having fun in an MMO. (PvE makes up for it by causing drama about loot and rosters, something you don't see in PvP.)
I think Neverwinter, the MMORPG, is very suitable for PvP. It is not a table top PnP session, but an action-based, fast-paced click/hotkey multiplayer-game based on DnD. The 4th edition was designed with video gaming in mind. I think people just need to be more tolerant and accepting. Neverwinter will only survive if it is popular, so the more niche you try to make it, the less likely it is to succeed.

I have seen that be just as bad in PvE too though. What you don't have X gear score? Get out of my raid! What you cannot do Y DPS? Sorry go failboat somewhere else. What your a battle cleric? Cleric are for healing nubs! L2P!
What you are speaking to here has more to do with the community than PvE or PvP. Sure the PvP community is more rough around the edges, more blunt about things. However progression guilds in PvE are no better. All I saw here was a reasonable, well thought out, and polite request for consideration in PvP by the developers and a bunch of PvP sucks, get off our PvE lawn, harsh trolling and response to the OP.
Elitism is elitism, be it in PvP, PvE, or even RP. I have seen it exist everywhere. Just because someone PvP's does not make them an immature troll, that has been proven time and again on these very forums.
I don't mind some PVP, its fun and a change of pace, but I agree that the focus should be to deliver a great PVE experience first. Don't get me worng, I have nothing against PVP...
I just focus my gaming on the story, and thats the main reason I have been abandoning every single MMO I played on the last 10 years as soon as I reach the level cap. I just hope Neverwinter mileage can be extended with the foundry.

I don't mind PVP existing in this game, but having played a few mmo's before, where PVP is more prevalent in some, I sincerely hope that PVP remains a small focus in this game. And as someone mentioned before, hopefully if balances for PVP come along it doesn't come at the expense of PVE stability. I've seen it happen time and time again, mostly in SWTOR, where PVE stuff was handily sandbagged because people whined and complained about things happening in PVP. In a good number of cases, it made certain advanced classes nearly unplayable in PVE raids, or nerfed enough that progression groups refused to take those AC's in with their groups.
In short, PVP is fine, as long as there is a very distinctive line between PVP and PVE that doesn't get crossed over. Yes, most of us are aware that D&D is primarily a PVE type of game, but PVP exists in today's realm of computer games, so to have thousands upon thousands of players online in the same game, and to increase exposure and introduce different elements to attract the largest number of players (remember, this is a business after all, and their primary focus is to make money). It's an inevitability that PVP will show up in games all over, with an extreme few not including it.
Also for folks concerned about PvP and PvE balance, don't worry. They are balancing the game on PvE first and when they need to make adjustments for PvP they do. A perfect example is the increase in control wizard control time and effects in PvE but not increasing it in PvE. They have already established that they will be balanced independent of each other.
Polls have been launched. PvP is an afterthought, if that, in D&D...
Since 1974 tabletop through today, D&D has been about PvE, adventuring, grouping and questing... this game is following the same paths that has made true D&D the product that has entranced millions of gamers over decades of play.

I have been playing D&D from the box sets the computer games and the ddonline fiasco and I am here to tell you PVP is not D&D this Is an MMO based in and centered around dungeons and dragons it is a group game with a basses in story and character development. The only way I see PVP even being in this is in an area setting like gladiator style and only by choice my advice if you want PVP go somewhere else you're not going to like it here. We dungeons and dragon players are many and been here for a while for a good quality game for D&D. If this is the one we will not let you ruin it with your whining and wow baby attitudes so lets get this straight from the start (see below)

Nice troll, I will go find some dev interviews so people understand how wrong you are.
Every mmo breaks when PVP made changes to balance PVP, destroy the class distinctions and balance of PVE
Please make PVP a side show and concentrate on true D&D , story, PVE, foundry etc
Don't ruin the game by trying to "balance" PVP combat
It des not wrk....
Gamer since 1976, SPI, AH Boardgames got me started
Got Apple II in 1979 and onward to gaming...
MMO's : UO, EQ, WOW since Classic, Rift, TOR, and now NWN and EVE since 2006
Don't hold your breath for this game being some kind of e-sport or have any kind of meaningful PvP like something like a DAoC. Few MMO's are built around the idea of PVP. There is supposedly a 20v20 zone at the end so maybe there will be some fun there for PvP fans.
Name calling is just going to get this thread locked, so lets cool our jets shall we?
There is a PVP game, however the game is and will be PVE centric. We have seen how Cryptic handles PVP in CO and STO...this will not be anything revolutionary from those MMO's. That being said, there is room for all play styles, no play style is the correct one. Cryptic has never been big on nerfing PVE for the sake of PVP, the few times they have it's bit them in the rear.
Honestly preemptive complaining on both sides is pretty insipid.
If this is the one we will not let you ruin it with your whining and wow baby attitudes so lets get this straight from the start
The game already has PvP and they are working on improving it, so it will not go anywhere. You know, I try to stay out of the sandbox, so I will just suggest that you look at your own posts and ask yourself this: "Do I come across as whiny and aggressive, and am I behaving like those who I think are inferior to me?"

Neverwinter's main focus isn't PvP.
It's not even one of the key elements in the game, really.
Don't get me wrong, I love PvP in an MMO;
but Neverwinter is not a game to get in too deep in terms of PvP.
Don't hold your breath.
Mainly, Neverwinter is about PvE and the Foundry.
You want PvP so bad; go play Aion.
