Homeland/background selection - any in-game effect?

For example, for my rogue, I chose Luruar and the Harper Initiate background. Does this have any effect on quests and the like or is it just for flavor/RP purposes?

    My Halfling got an "of the Dalelands" title at some point. None of my other characters got an origin title though. The title was the only effect I saw.

    Yeah, I was able to use "of Luruar." I was just thinking that it would be nice to see it reflected in the game's storyline in small ways. For example, one of Cormyr's background choices is Purple Dragon. It would be kind of cool to see that background unlock a homeland quest that might give you, for example, some Purple Dragon cosmetic gear.

    Nothing that would give someone a mechanical advantage, just a little something extra to give the background we chose a little more meaning. :)

    Dunno, depends on if there a flag or something that we can make the game check or not. I want to make a quest that has difference dialogue based on your background.
