I'm not trying to sound like a jerk either (no offense taken from you.) but I did read on the Spellplague as was suggested by another reply. I didn't find any shred of info about gnomes. What happened to them? The replies also said that they were nearly wiped out and were the cause of the the Spellplague yet again I found nothing to support this? I've read a few dif info-sites not just the one posted in one of these previous rep[lies. Again, no gnomes.
Please point me in the right direction so I can see where it mentions anything about the gnomes.
It's been a while, but as I recall Lantan was the largest concentration of gnomes as well as a major center for Gond and innovation. Since gnomes were concentrated in Lantan, the destruction of Lantan significantly decreased the gnomish population.
The right to command is earned through duty, the privilege of rank is service.
The lack of gnomes is just one reason I'm really dreading starting to play the game right off.
I want to make a trickster rogue, but I want it to be a gnome. I want to play a drow, but I want her to be a bard. I want to play a tiefling divine character, but I'm not sure the cleric is what I really want--she's supposed to be an invoker. I want to make a half-elf, but I want her to be a sorcerer. And the list goes on. I'm just not feeling any of the current possible race-class combinations. I'll find something, though. Even if I just fool around on a tiefling cleric and spend the majority of my time in the Foundry.

At first (before the Beta Weekends) I was afraid that a lack of gnomes, among other things, would be a deal-killer for me. Gnomes are by far my favorite D&D race, and I was afraid that not being able to play a gnome would impact my enjoyment a lot. However, between the dwarves and halflings I think I will be okay. The dwarves are more gnome-like than dwarf-like, IMO. Of course I am a 3/3.5 player and go by the picture in the PHB; I'm not sure if they made dwarves shorter and thinner on 4e or if that's just a design choice for NW. In my mind's eye, dwarves are supposed to have a much closer ratio of width to height (as in, very wide shoulders, wide body). The halflings in NW are also thicker than I normally picture halflings. So in a way, they left gnomes out but made the other two "short" races more gnome-like to compensate. (I'm not saying this was done on purpose, that's just how it's registering in my brain.)
So my main will be a halfling, and I'll just pretend she's a gnome. I can live with that.
Raises the interesting question of Race Change paid service in the future too. Since all the Races can already be all the classes without any restrictions, you should be able to switch race at some point. The only change would be the +2's racial bonus you got for your first stats, which could easily be changed over to what ever the other race you swap to has.
But yes, gnomes are awesome!
:cool:PLAY TO WIN:cool:|"A light in the darkness."
There are already 2 midget races. Let's not go full-HAMSTER and add another.
Hell, why stop at gnome ?! Let's go even smaller: garden gnome, a race of ants, a race of bacteria, all the way to the heroic race of single cell organisms. I mean it's well known that the most basic of life forms have the greatest odds of surviving in hostile conditions. Surely that makes them cool enough to be a race in a video game.

Brilliant tactic, hyperbole and straw-man arguments are sure to win you the discussion! One point for chomag!
By this logic, we have way too many tall races. Why do we need human, elf, half elf, tiefling, drow, and half orc? Everyone should be happy with just one or two, right?

No, you don't understand why I made this argument. You see...I'M BORED!

Not sure why it isn't just PH.
What Class Are You?

This in no way emulates my own opinion, but funny nonetheless.

I can definitely understand that! Neverwinter should help out with that.. only one day to go if you're a Founder!
I AM SO EXCITED!
