What companion did you choose this beta weekend and what were your thoughts?
I had the healer and got her to 24 the last beta and she was decent for topping me off between fights. Things were better for her survival beta 4 weekend, Woot! However they capped her at 15 since they made the tier changes. She was still rocking out the rank 24 spells though, which was unfortunately not that great at 50.
I then tried the cat because it says it raises Crit and Recovery. I summoned it and found my Crit .1 higher and something equally as crappy for Recovery. I thought to myself, maybe because it's rank 1, let's go rank it up. I got the cat to rank 9 and checked again, no change. Hrmm, maybe it needs runes and gear to see a difference, Bingo! I added Crit runes and Crit + life steal gear just to see if it affected me. Well it gave me 100% of the stats from the gear, which was very nice. So if you want to sacrifice the extra DPS/Tanking/Healing of a normal companion, give the cat a try if you like pure stats.
