Control Wizard - What About DPS Build/Role?

I have a theoretical question...

What if you are planning to focus your Control Wizard into a DPS build/role?

Your CW would focus on Recharge/Recovery stats as far as Abilities (i.e. INT + WIS) and Gear (Recovery) go. Also, the higher the INT the greater the boost to overall damage.

You would choose to place Heroic Feat Points into the Feat that would lower the recharge of Encounter Powers by 10%. Furthermore, you would pick the DPS tier (Thaumaturge, I think).

With all this combined, you would have less cooldown times on your Powers, which would allow the CW to bring more damaging powers/spells to bear quicker.

While the DPS-build CW would have less CC, it would be understood that the purpose of the build is to attack faster and attack harder given the same time frame as a CC-build CW.

Anyway, it is just a thought. I plan to try it out as soon as I can.

Well, we'll have to wait and see what changes they made to CW since BW3, but as it was then the highest-damage build was the same as the highest-CC build: Stack Crit through stats, gear and feats, take the Heroic feat that buffs AP-gain when using Control powers, and go down the Renegade feat path to get 5% of your AP back on Crits, buff your Crit Severity, and massively buff the power of your At-Wills.

This allowed you to spam your Dailies all the time for massive CC and massive damage, while also having an extremely powerful and useful Magic Missile.

As far as the CW build goes, there's not a whole lot of ways you can mess it up when it comes to feat points, most of the power from the class comes from player skill and knowing when to and when not to use specific abilities. Another part is your gear, are you stacking crit, power, deflection or defense? Those numbers have to be calculated in, but personally, I prefer the crit heavy build because of the feats that allow you to build up your Action Points with crits, as well as those that boost your CC abilities and Encounter time reduction.

Should be possible to get some crazy dps with the CW, however i would guess you have to sacrifice alot more tho to reach it. Dunno if this is a bad plan or such but im thinking of going Tiefling and then focus on INT and CHA as main stats. Crit is nice and will help alot with your dpsissues, on top of that i guess you need the alludare companion (not sure about the name, but the flooting stone). Gear should be power and crit period :O, however when it comes to heroicfeats and pageon im not sure at all. Looks like i will be going for chill/frost/cold damage beacuse there is way more stuff adding to that damage in % then to arcane. Havent seen all spells ingame yet so its kinda hard to choose :O.

Here is a video of me playing through the Level 49 dungeon, The Frozen Heart, as a Level 50 Control Wizard.

I am spec'ed for lots of DPS/Crit and AoE. I am using the Ioun Stone which is, in the video, only level 13 or so. Had I spent more time leveling it, my crit score would have been much higher (It was giving around 300 Crit at level 13). Total, I have around 1600 Power and 2000 Critical.

For some reason, this dungeon has some FPS issues at the beginning, but they clear up after the third group.

The favorite build got nerfed, the action point gain can only occur now every 10 seconds.

Yeah, I noticed that in the Renegade tree...the action point gains based on criticals now has a 10 second cooldown.

I tried my proposed build as I had originally posted. I focused on INT (for damage boost and refresh boost) and WIS (for action point gain boost and refresh boost). I focused obtaining gear with Power + Recovery, which was usually titled, "the [something] of Respite" or something similar. For the most part, my Heroic Feat points were focused on increasing damage and lowering the Encounter powers cooldown times. Also, I chose the Thaumaturge path. I did not focus on Crit gear/score, as my build's purpose was to consistently place damage into the targets with a faster rate-of-delivery.

I was not able to reach the max-level (at least, the max level for this beta) before BW4 ended, but my build seemed to work out well for me. Once the game goes live, I will continue to develop this build and see where it leads.
