Voice chat please fix...

With beta weekend impending I would like to make one request... Please fix the voice chat... It flickers to life and then dies just as suddenly... I was trying to chat with another player but the chat wouldn't work no matter how high I put the volume or what setting I changed... Then suddenly while playing it started and then as soon as I started talking it went back out again... It's very difficult to work as a team when you aren't able to talk to each other and it's impossible to text while in combat...

It would also be nice if there were some kind of indicator that you're transmitting. There were several times I was on a team during BW2 and someone didn't realize they had an ever-open mic, so the whole team heard everything that was going on in that person's house. I turned off my mic (pushed the button) even though I had disabled open-mic, just in case it bugged and sent anyway. There are times when I just don't want whatever personal conversation I'm having on the phone to be broadcast to my whole MMO team, oddly enough! ;]

I'm sorry but I have to put a damper on this thread. I would much rather the devs focus on content, game play issues than putting too much time on in-game voice chat. Mumble is free, there is Ventrilo, TS and even C3. In-game voice chat is something that can be easily looked at later once the main game play issues have been addressed.

The problem is, voice chat is already in the game. IMO that means it either needs to be fixed, or disabled until it can be fixed. Never mind the embarassment, I can think of legal and privacy concerns this raises as well. Someone plays the game while a family member has a private conversation on the phone, and neither realizes the whole thing is being broadcast to the entire team. I know there's a setting to turn voice chat on and off, but obviously there are a lot of people who had it on and didn't know it. This could end up being a legal headache for Cryptic or PWE as well, if private information is leaked and/or damages done. This may be an edge-case scenario, but at the very least it should be on the concern list, if even to save players' a lot of embarrassment.

I very much see where you're coming from, though. I wouldn't mind having the whole voice feature disabled entirely until they get it figured out. I will probably be using Vent a lot (depending how many of my fellow Repeat Offenders stick around or start playing), but it would also be neat to voice chat with a non-RO/PuG team without having to reconfigure vent servers. But again, only if the feature is very clear and explicit when in use.

I have to agree, implement a working VoIP program or disable it until works properly. Regardless, wishing you a good BWE!

The only issue I had was the defaults were too loud/sensitive. I would set the defaults low, I rather a player come in low sounding and adjust up than come in screeching loud.
