O.K., in another thread about single target heals I mentioned an idea to have a flag of some sort show up above the badly injured players head. Whether it would show up automatically, or by way of the dying groupmate to put it up himself, I don't care which. Although I think that some players that like to grief would probably get annoying with their flag when they don't really need it. So automatically probably would be best.
The idea is to have some sort of flag show up when the players health gets below say 25%. The Cleric would then only have to aim at the flag and cast his/her single-target heal at that to get the heal to land on the groupmate. This would keep the whole aiming requirement intact and assist in single target heals that may otherwise be hard to target in a chaotic mess.
Ranncore, in the other post this was brought up in, had a good idea to! That was to use the floating health bars as the target box and maybe it would get bigger as the players health drops! I think this is a good idea to!
What do you all think of this? Do you feel this could retain the action combat feel, but also help for single target heals? Or do you feel this would dumb-down the game too much? I feel it's still hard than othe MMO's where the healer can face a total opposite direction and just click nameplates and heal buttons!

You get a vote from me. Seems to stay true to action combat and targeting skills but also remove the insanity that is hitting a specific party member when its a cluster*uck around the mobs/boss
I think it would dumb it down a bit. It would be like an Emergency Monitor mod from WoW, telling you "ok heal this person now". If you sift through the HUD options, you can keep player health bars turned on above friendlies' heads. I understand targeting may be an issue, but practice makes perfect!
I would rather them do something with temp hp used in DnD to some extent.

Interesting idea, but honestly it's just silly. I suggest they just add the ability to instalock our party members (something like F1-F4), and consider this issue resolved.
I sure don't want a mess of size variable health bars, or some goofy flags sticking out. We can already lock targets using Control, so it really isn't fundamentally different (aside from some clunky UI coordination, which as unfun and imprecise as it is, can't possibly be intended as the sole method of play) to just let us lock party members as needed.

Please, no, I don't want a WoW targeting scheme. I'm sick of playing games where all the cleric does is sit back and tap the F keys and heal. I like the cleric.
Honestly, my suggestion is this: there is only 1 (one, single) targeted heal in the game. It sucks: don't use it.
I like the idea of a targetable flag that pops up over players heads when they get low on life. I also like the idea of being able to target their health bar, and having it grow in size as the red diminishes. These retain the action combat feel while making the existing mechanics and spells more useful.
But I think the easiest solution would be to make Healing Word have an AOE effect.

Temp HP rocks in this game. There's tons of cleric skills and feats built to use it, but more importantly, there's tons of Guardian Fighter skills and feats that use it as well. They specifically engineered the tank and heal class to have interacting skills. And I thought that was pretty **** clever.

Coherence is your middle name? Anyways, are you seriously suggesting a target helper flag, while incredulously knuckle dragging about a reliable way to target party members.
I didn't get a chance to play my Cleric to cap during beta, so I'll take your word that there is just one targeted heal (although if memory serves, I was using 2 by level 15 - the heal over time encounter power, and the Tab based ability), but I do know there are far more reasons players would want to target a party member - including classes besides our Cleric.
From the beta i remember CTRL button stands as locking the target, ain't it useful for cleric? I haven't played cleric yet so i don't know if it helps.

could always just make it auto targetting, "heals the lowest person in your party" or aoe affecting ....
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] I AM A SEXY SHOELESS GOD OF WAR!!!
healing is only thing challening in game right now and only in rnd groups so i dont want to change it game is preaty weak right now they should work on other things then chaningn healing from healers
If I were given the choice to key target healing with the current weak heals vs aim target healing with more healing power. I'd go for the later, it is an action game, takes some skill, ok, but **** this Healing Word needs to heal well to be worth the effort.
