Although I found Baldur's Gate to be a better game overall with plenty of stomping around the Sword Coast, Neverwinter as a city has (for me) proved to be a better hub of adventure thanks to the two Neverwinter Nights games.
So when we would play PnP we always started in the outskirts of a larger city mostly Waterdeep or Luskan and would travel from there, although I played and own Neverwinter Nights and the first expansion we stayed mostly out of the larger cities, that said one of our best fights took place in Neverwinter on a high level campaign we had where I was playing a Halfbreed Silver Dragon one of my Favorite PC's ever I kept a hat of Transmorphing that kept me looking like a small average sized Human But I think Waterdeep and Luskan area and farmlands for me was where my heart stayed so one of those cities.

My favorite Forgotten realms city would be Calimport which is under utilized in computer games
