The HAMSTER dead girl is Valindra.
She appears in the R.A. Salvatore Series first in "The Pirate King" and then her storyline is expanded in "The Neverwinter Saga":
"Gauntelgrym" "Neverwinter" "Charon's Claw" and "The Last Threshold"
Other than that I am sure there are plenty of other people who can suggest books to expand on the Neverwinter Lore far more than just those four (five).
Dissolution by R.A. Salvatore is a good start (If you want to know about Drow :P), then any other book by him (Like the one suggested above). You could also play the two first Neverwinter games, and Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale (you can get them from GOG for about $9.99). Then there's tons of other books you can lookup on amazon (They have Kindle versions of most books). I hope that helped
I'm back with some more tips. Here's a website that will help you. It has a complete list of all his works, and you can choose and pick from what you want to read about. You can also see in what order you should read the works. I hope that helped
Neverwinter's (the game) story is based directly from the story in the Neverwinter trilogy by Salvatore; Gauntelgrym, Neverwinter and Charon's Claw IIRC
There is a rumor floating around that I am working on a new foundry quest. It was started by me.
The original look at the modern Neverwinter is the Drizzt series "The Neverwinter Saga" by R.A. Salvatore. They have some nice insight to Neverwinter, including taking place during the actual post spell plague disaster that almost destroyed Neverwinter (Volcano).
You can also check out the book "Brimstone Angels" by Erin Evans. It travels from Waterdeep to Neverwinter where the real adventure starts. Lots of political info, you meet several of the factions not covered in the Drizzt books.
Also there is "Cold Steel and Secrets" by Rosemary Jones. Again you have some nice political info about Neverwinter. This time it deals with the Sons of Neverwinter and what they are up to. It was released as a set of smaller ebooks on amazon - I am not sure if they have all been collected yet.
Then Wizards of the coast did release the "Neverwinter Campaign Setting" book. Cryptic even has had a lot of influence with that setting guide and it should be pretty spot on in places with the game.
Those are the most current books to deal with Neverwinter I believe. For more historical look at neverwinter (IE pre spell plague) you could play the Neverwinter Nights Games.

Actually it's going to be more than a trilogy soon from what I've heard another book that follow's the last 3 books is about to be released making this a full saga/series.
Also other books to read that may also help with backstory but is tied to the same general area of the game world or the characters in that Series of books mentioned above are:
The Icewind Dale trilogy, The Crystal Shard books, and while not necessary but possibly helpful the Twilight War saga as I believe it has part to do in leading up to the Spellpague which is part of the recent history leading up to this game.
There are also other books I could suggest reading to give you a better understanding of the greater world outside of Neverwinter and the history of that world. As that can have a effect on Neverwinter and it's surrounding territory as well, but you should certainly start with the already mentioned books people suggest.
Only for a serious FR fan:- for stuff without spoilers and mostly based on 4e:-
I don't usually give this advice because you may get lost in realms but the following books to start with(there may be bias because of my own favourites):-
Names are a bit hazy as I am writing from memory but you should be able to identify with the keywords I have written
Realm of the Elves
Nethril triology books
The Nether scrolls
Realms of arcane
Realm of shadows
Elminister series (forgot the name)
Blackstaff (The Khelben one) [The bestest lore in da Realms!!!]
The Harper series along with it
Rest of the anthologies (Realms of the ... series);<Read about red wizards of thay too to get their lore - there were some books but I completely forgot the name)
The drizzt trilogy series 1
pool of radiance/twilight and darkness
Moonshae triology
Icewind dale trilogy (drizzt 2)
The dark drow (drizzt 3) series
Time of troubles (Avatar series)
Alabaster staff
Then play Baldur's gate (I heard very nice discount was going on from goog)
Next that Beeshba and tymora story(forgot name, is a famous name)
Realms of the deep (The waterdeep stories of Blackstaff)
City of splendors - waterdeep
Rest of the legend of drizzt
(and according to your taste - cormyr books, myth drannor books and stuff)
1~~~~~~~~~~~1
NWN1 (was the name wailing plague?)
NWN2
Strom of zehir - now spellplague comes
Read Gauntylgyrm and open 4e pnp books:-
Heroes of feywild - know all about fey, beautiful book
Raven queen's story from PHB
Astral sea's book for the homes of gods and Demonicon - Demon war and Asmodeus rebooted
PHB - tiefling's story, dragoonborns
The book of vile darkness
The book of abyss (the plane below?)
Heroes of shadow
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That will cover most of the lore and it is all good enjoyment too. Heroes of feywild is very good and interesting book if you are into fairies.
Forgot:-
Also gods and Pantheons from 3e (As 4e is not out). Its a bit outdated but interesting read.
Those are mostly general Forgotten Realms books as opposed to say Neverwinter. Granted, Neverwinter is IN the forgotten Realms, the books I mentioned deal specifically with Neverwinter.
It is really too bad that WOTC scrapped plans for a Neverwinter anthology back when NWN1 was released.
Oh to add a few more books for the OP:
Luskan is visited in the Shadowbane books and Shadowbane first appears in the "Ed Greenwood presents: Waterdeep" series.
The wilds books deals with the spell plague and touches on how the world is different post spell plague.
The Sword of the Gods is about a Deva and takes place near Airspur the Genasi kingdom.
Dawnbringer has two Devas, one who is falling rapidly, and is set amidst a story of revenge and love, etc.
The Haunted Lands deals with Thay (Valindra's masters).
And on which point of the books the mmo starts? Im in the middle of book II and ignored the whole story of the game, because of spoilers. So, how much I have to read, till valindra attacs Neverwinter with the dragon and the story of the game begins?
Quite a lot, I'm not even sure that there are any books set in the current era (I believe that Neverwinter is set about 100 years after the last 3.5e book)
If you want a quick and dirty resource for finding information for Foundry quests I recommend the Forgotten Realms Wiki which is pretty in depth about the history of Neverwinter (although it does start to fall down around the 4e stuff but that's because the main resources for 4e FR is the FR Campaign guide and this game atm).
