What other "Support" classes are there?

I'm not extremely familiar with D&D lore, so I'm not quite sure what to anticipate in the future as far as an additional support class. The Cleric is the mainstay of almost any MMORPG, but what do you guys think will be the next support class? What about additional Healers?

I'm guessing the Bard would come next with his likely melee dps and songs offering supportive offensive, defensive, and debuffing abilities.

What do you guys think?

I'd love to see bards come in sooner rather than later! I'd say that is definitely your ultimate "support" class.

AFAIK, for launch the support roles will be limited to the cleric(s) and control wizard. Beyond that, who knows :)

Not a D&D pro but I think there's also a support focused Paladin class.

Shaman could be an additional primary healer.

I would see a pally or battle cleric more of a secondary healer with some tanking.

Even if you stick with just the already established class archetypes in D&D, then there are lots and lots of ways a support class could be done in Neverwinter. There's so many that I think just about any option could be coming down the pipeline. I say, chime in on what YOU want and maybe enough people will agree that it'll get priority.

I'd be equally happy with a bard or a warlord worked up to be a support/healer class. Having both would be Crazy McAwesomeface.

In 4E the support characters are really those with the Leader role. This includes:

    Cleric
    Warlord
    Bard
    Ardent
    Shaman
    Runepriest

In MMO terms, you can also include Controllers as support characters. That would include the following:

    Wizard
    Druid
    Invoker
    Psion
    Seeker

In fact, Druid and Invoker can be built with a secondary role of Leader.

Yep, but what's neat is other classes lean towards Leader secondarily, which makes them more versatile. I'm of the opinion that Cryptic could take one of those second string Leaders and spin up a new class build that stands on its own if they needed to. Lots of good possibilities.

I would say that the paladin could be classified as a support class as well, because it offers a lot of group utility as well.

In general, many classes in 4th edition have party friendly abilities.

There are lots and lots of non-leaders with leader secondary:

Thaneborn Barbarian, Virtous Paladin, Preservoker, WB Warden, Essential Druid, Witch... just to name a few of them.

While classes depends on role, just adding a couple of leading powers can add substantial help to party members.
