Anybody here play Star Wars The Old Republic?
SWTOR has a number of great features of course but, and this I think is where the game experiences its biggest setback and why it struggles, there is pretty much only one thing to do in the game: Fight. From the time you make your character to the time your class story ends, and beyond, you're just fighting, fighting, fighting, fighting, fighting. Which, you know, you would think would be okay, right? It's a Star Wars game. If there aren't blasters going off and lightsabers burning there's something wrong.
Not really true. MMOs are a unique proposition among games. Story-driven MMOs even more so.
Long-term players are the key to wealth. There is an X factor involved. "Come for the ____, stay for the ____." SWTOR has amazing storytelling to put in the first blank but nothing to put in the second blank, and that's why their people leave after they finish their stories. It's like they hit the end of the pipe and just tumble out into the void with nothing to hold onto.
So for Neverwinter, I'm curious to know, what is there to do besides fighting? And don't say crafting. That's a yawn. Nobody stays for the crafting system unless the whole game is built around it like in SWG or FFXIV.
Will there be winter events? Summer events? Will I, on Valentines Day next year, be able to send a lore-appropriate type of valentine to my sweetie?
