I got a response from one of the Dev's they said the ranger is a melee oriented class that dual wields. But I'm hoping for an archer type as well.
Actualy they specialize in both. The Devs as usual didn't do all the research. WotC didn't help much either because they are always finding a way to mess up the game like their idiotic 4E rules. I think what the actual issue is the Devs can't figure out how to make them shot arrows while running. So sad

What "research"? It was an answer about the Ranger class they are currently implementing. Not what is in any particular edition of PnP. Which, by the way, Rangers specializing in bows didn't appear in core until 3.5, and in dual wielding not until 3E. Rangers prior to 3.5 gain no particular bonuses to bows, and Rangers prior to 3E have no particular bonuses for dual wielding.

Amusingly, 4E does offer specializations in both, in a manner very similar to 3.5. So your "criticism" demonstrates your own failure to "do all the research". Perhaps before judging a game, it would be best to actually know something about it?

Not being able to figure out how to shoot arrows while running? I highly doubt this is even an issue they are unable to overcome in fact it isn't the issue at all. Having a character run and shoot an arrow simultaneously is the same as a character in a FPS running and shooting this is not something the MMO industry hasn't been able to figure out how to do. It all boils down to, how to execute this type of play style without being game breaking or imbalanced.
I find it pretty silly that one could even come up with that kind of theory.

The Research I am refering to is the Dev saying rangers are dual weild only. As for my comment about wizard is their messing with the alignment system.

Zeek said that no classes in the game can run and do an ability at the same time. He said that being able to move while doing animations felt too "floaty" like in games such as Vindictus. So I doubt the ranger will be able to run and shoot at the same time.

The Dev did not say that. All that was said is that the Ranger class they are working on is dual wield. What it is in PnP is besides the point. "Research" doesn't enter into it. And even if it did, Rangers have been dual wield specialized longer than they've been bow specialized.

So it was entirely off-topic, and you just wanted to vent about 4E for some odd reason?
But, seriously, alignment is what gets you bent out of shape on 4E?
I think it's clear they know HOW to make a character shoot arrows while moving, since it's been in the engine since Champions Online. The problem is it feels incredibly floaty to do that in an action MMO. It also would make them the only class capable of effective kiting, which is a technique they appear to wish to prevent, since it greatly decreases the feel of character jeopardy.
I'd rather they take the time to do it right without it unbalancing the game, and give us an EFFECTIVE Archer Ranger that doesn't have to get nerfed to hell immediately after it's introduced.

If you're going to quote somebody or even say somebody said something paste the original link. They did not say rangers only did melee. The BUILD they are working on is melee only.
Yes the class will be released at post launch not at launch. There is no archer at launch and we are sad too.

Launch is still a ways away, this is only first beta. I wouldn't be surprised either way, if it makes it in for launch or not.
