How many of you would be OK with playing a Paladin instead? It's possible the devs will decide the two classes (BC/Paladin) are too similar and not worth the time to make properly distinct over adding a whole new class concept altogether. I mean would you rather the game had both of these classes over a Paladin and an Avenger? Druid? Monk?

I imagine another shield-wielding Defender class but where the GF tends toward the technical utility of long swords the Paladin fights with a warhammer and divine smiting. Plenty of heals and buffs built into his attacks, Lay On Hands for an active heal like Healing Word, Divine Challenge to Mark targets and debuff them for the whole team to take advantage.

No. No. No. And one more 'No'. Read this thread, please. I've already said about difference between them, it's quite ignorant to compare cleric and paladin.

Yes, they are different. Yes, you and many others have explained how they are different. Still you cannot deny that they are very, VERY similar. It's not "ignorant" at all to compare the two.

Both use the Divine power source, both fight in melee with heavy armor, both buff and heal allies with their spells and abilities.

My point is that they are similar enough that to make both classes in lieu of some other truly distinct class is unlikely. It's like in Team Fortress 2; each class has a distinct silhouette so that enemies will know what they're facing even from a distance. Distinction and variety are key to making a fun and dynamic game.

So were your four "No"s your answer to my question? You would absolutely refuse to play a Paladin if they decided not to make a Battle Cleric because they're just too different for you?

Going to agree with you. Leader vs Defender roles mean they have vast differences. If they implement a Paladin that heals it's a poor paladin build.

    I can and I do. :)

    Sure.

Because I semi-hate paladins and like clerics.

I'm not too good with D&D classes and such. But I think that if Cryptic wants to get those hardcore D&D players, they will just have to look into the smaller details of each of those two Divine classes and make them both.

Maybe you should listen to this podcast with Zeke Sparkes why there is no battle cleric ingame atm: http://epicslantpress.com/mmo-radio-podcast/episode-13-neverwinter-featuring-lead-designer-zeke-sparkes/ ~26m30s.

True. It seems like Cryptic's plan is to regularly churn out classes as a part of their monthly updates (I hesitate to bring it up, but I would compare it to Riot's approach to pumping out new Champions every 2 weeks/month), though the pace at which they will do so I can't guess. Was a hypothetical question.

**Haven't seen that sig before. I like it!

"How do we get our Clerics into play?" lol xD

Thank you for the extremely informative link! Glad to hear Battle Cleric is on the way! :D

    Another question:

Sounds like the Battle Cleric will be a Leader/Defender with a shield (hurray!), but will the BC have the same Block mechanic as the GF? Or will they shake it up and give it some Divine flair? What are some opinions on how they could add that flair?

So..we still need one melee cleric, I really wish we had any news about new classes being released (est. time per class or something). Don't know how about you, but my guardian pack is useless for 13 days already, because I see no reason to withdraw items for twinks... At least I'm doing a couple of new epic foundries, but still I want to play a little too.
