As the title suggests, I am wondering if say, as a Wizard we want to fight melee with a dagger, in the D&D world, we should be able to do that. Also, if we are playing a fighter, we should be able to pick up and use ANY weapons. I know that this is hailed as an ARPG MMO, but that shouldn't stop us from mix/match. I am concerned about the restricted weapons only from the videos where it shows the wizard shooting magic missiles and cones of cold, but nothing else customization, as picking up a purple of dagger slaying +5 would account for.
Im hoping that these pre-made classes won't be constrictive as well.

I totally agree that we *should* be able to do that, but from the information available it looks like we can't. I believe we know that a Guardian Fighter can't use a 2h weapon etc.

Aye, it seems likely we'll be restricted to those weapons which conform to the animations. So a rogue might get dual scimitars (a bit on the large end of the scale, probably, if possible) instead of dual daggers... and the Great Weapon guy might be able to use a two hand battleaxe instead of a two hand sword... but they'd all share the same basic animations.
As for wizards using daggers... since wizzies aren't likely to be limited to casting X number of Y level spells per day but will just have at-will and 6 - 30 second recharge spells, it seems unlikely they would need to use daggers. Now, the cleric might be able to use a weapon and/or cast spells since they are generally considered a more martial class (what with wearing plate armor, using maces and shields and whatnot).
I hope we can get some clarification, because we don't want the fundamental RP to be taken out of the MMORPG for the sake of the Action. Please let us know DEVS, we are desperate to know one way or the other. Give us time to mentally prepare for the restriction if there is one.
My guess is there will be weapon type requirements for certain skills. So take the guardian fighter, if they chose to equip a 2h weapon, they would be able to Cleave, but not Tide of Iron since it requires a shield.
At least i think this is how it should work, would fit the pen and paper version pretty well.

They've said that gear would be class bound, but what I'd like to see is the ability to take a feat that enables a different type of gear to be used, and/or perhaps weapons granting simple at-will powers to be used with.

Heres hoping!
No, not any weapon. Wizards use spells and spells are cast through implements. So far you've seen the orb and I can't comment on anything else not released.

See above as wizzies attacks are spell based not combat based.

I can understand that a wizard orb would be class bound since i cant imagine a fighter using it to cast spells, except when multiclassing is going to be implemented. But at the other end i can definitely imagine a rogue picking up a sword and buckler in a fight or a fighter using 2 daggers or 2 swords perhaps or even a mace or morningstar. So I would expect that the game would implement this kind of flexibility in the future.
Ive probably havent get to far yet in the game to experience all the different kind of loot you can get your hands on but for now its kind of feel boring. The different gears that u get only differ in stats that they give you. There is no uniqueness in it, like clickies or even some kind of ability like feather fall or faster run bonus etc.
Loot diversity thats like the biggest thing that will keep me playing & spending cash on a bad and laggy game like DDO.

Eeek! Necro.
I am going to close this up since it was before BW1 and all of these speculations have been answered by the actual gameplay in the Beta Weekends. Just so that we don't get any confusion that people believe some of these speculations/questions are current its best to close this up.
Please make a new topic as I'm sure there's a discussion to be had about this even today! The information in this thread is so outdated I wouldn't want people responding to the first page with updated information constantly rather than talking about current details/opinions.
