I personally think the Foundry will prolong the lifespan of the game immeasurably. There are still thriving Morrowind/Neverwinter Nights (1 and 2) communities, entirely because of the solid toolsets. Players can and will create content much more quickly than devs!

Despite being unable to actually create assets, I see no reason why that won't be the case with an MMO. It's D&D, you can create your own mods - what's not to love?

I too think it will increase the lifespan. But the problem is a lot of people like me who wants progress for the time spend needs to know if we can get proper loot and endgame items or something else besides the experiense.

I think it's bananas that Cryptic isn't giving out beta keys to potential authors at this stage. What's better than having a robust library of UGC at the launch of your game? I would want my customer authors into the breach ASAP, so they can get familiar with the toolset.

Get the ball rolling Cryptic. Its pure hubris if Cryptic thinks all their talent is limited to the people in Alpha/Beta now.

Some of us will have a 5 day headstart and immediate access to the foundry so don't worry about that.

There's a foundry alpha going on right now, with a lot of proven foundry authors from STO in it, and some other people who have been on this forum for awhile who I don't think are STO players. One of the main foundry guys also went on a podcast a few nights ago and asked for names of people the podcasters knew who he should add to this foundry alpha.

The Foundry goes back to the time when friends sit around a table and create their own universe where they are fighters, mages, and thieves. Where one friend created an adventure and share it with their friends. This is what D&D is. If the Foundry has good content and good rewards, then it will be what supports the game.

If nothing else, the Foundry seems to lend itself to D&D with the whole DM and storytelling mindset. Hopefully with the Foundry being updated for Neverwinter along with this system almost being tailor made to fit the D&D crowd, that the Foundry will work better here than in the previous games the Foundry was implemented in.

Bah, that's unfortunate. I'm a day late, dollar short. I guess I'll see if I can tap some channels. Hopefully they'll let another round in.

My take on the OP's question is that it certainly looks like the Foundry is a central part of the game (unlike STO and COH). Of course it remains to be seen whether the concept is actually scalable to hundreds of thousands of player-created missions (with most of them being... not very good) and the inevitable rise of "early-bird" rockstar authors being promoted exclusively, smothering new blood from contributing.

Well, if they want a proven COH Mission Architect author with 3+ years of experience and a lot of effort poured into the "how to make UGC in a MMO actually work in practice" side of things, they could hit me up... probably too little/too late, though ;)

Highly likely, so long ast he rewards remain good, the content fun, and the staff not too obtrusive when it comes to what gets in and what doesn't. So help me, I'm going to reproduce every Dynasty Warriors map until my fingers fall off. Look for Cow Cow The Bovine of Chaos, and his son, Cow Pee!
