Most heavy armored 4th edition fighters favor strength and then either wisdom or constitution.
Light armored favor strenght and dexterity.
That said if feats prerequisites are in, different weapon feats usually require different stats and sometimes this strain a bit stat distribution , ex:
Light blades favor DEX, then STR (in this order)
Heavy blades STR, then DEX
Flails STR and DEX in equal measure
Axes STR, then CON
Hammers CON, then STR
Maces STR and CON in equal measure
And last most polearm builds strain your entire stat distribution requiring STR, DEX and WIS
These feat requirements are not exclusive of fighters, anyway.

I agree with arajir, but Strength is always a primary stat for Fighters, at least in 4e. The most stat hungry feats need a 19 stat by paragon tier.

Although very detailed and correct, if the guardian is simply tied to sword and shield and - stuff;
we can easily put it as:-
Guardian:-
Primary: STR
Secondary: DEX
Tertiary: WIS (maybe if you can choose more weapons)
Great Weapon Fighter:-
Primary: STR
Secondary: CON
priority in order.
However, unless they tell us more about class customization we cannot be sure.
I dunno about that for GW Fighter. The problem with prioritizing STR and then CON is that you are only going to get +Fort from the highest of two. If you went STR/DEX at least you'd get some +Ref out of it.
I dont know if it will be the problem in NWO, but fighters always seemed to herp and derp through Non-AC defenses. It can hurt later for sure.

For GW fighter, you need CON for weapons. STR will obviously be needed. They have shown greatsword and greataxe.
If they allow me to use polearm(as crypticmapolis suggested but he may have been mistaken as I haven't seen one yet), I am guessing WIS might be added as optional but I doubt it.
Remember that stats would probably be similar or close of all in a praticular build due to PvP so one does not get an unfair advantage in saves over others.

Why CON for weapons? Heavy Blades anchored on DEX as its secondary iirc. CON was-- axes and maces.
And for polearms if they ever put in the Glaive thats both Polearm (which does secondary WIS iirc) and H.Blade.

That is what I am saying. Weapons may not have damage tied to their types. Instead maybe greataxe may just give more crit and less damage instead of being affected by stats. Hence you may only need stats for build as abilities may require it to calculate damage and not based on weapons.
But we are only speculating. A dev needs to confirm how have they implemented it.
