If you played it on easy then yeah sure it was easy.
Hardest difficulty it was brutal
the hardest games were : castelvania, doom 1, quake 1, unreal 1 and of couse battletoads
The hardest game was Mario bros - especially the part where there are many small platforms. If only I knew you can press B and sprint it back then ...
Then was the Emerald weapon in FF - especially when I found it in my submarine by accident... I tried it so many times and then gave up, only to realize later that the boss was much whimpier compared to it.
And lastly, half life 1.
All the games above I can speedrun now. I guess what is difficult yesterday becomes easy tomorrow...
Games today are more sophisticated then in the past. Therefore, they attract gamers for many different reasons. Not every gamer places difficulty at the top of the list of important game qualities. Markets have expanded to fill new gaming niches and devs have responded.
This probably accounts for most of the loss, or appearance of loss, of gaming difficulty (if the loss is actually real). Whether this will be cyclical or not remains to be seen.

I think I was 8 or 9 when I first finished it, didn't seem hard to me...
