There's really no information on this yet. Looking at STO though it would seem we could use nothing.
Personally I hope WotC realizes the game would be much better if players were allowed to re-create WotC/TSR campaigns, though, and give permission for players to recreate their campaigns for the betterment of the game but I wouldn't count on it.
However it's good to remember any novels or magazines are copyrighted information and to redistribute them would be a direct violation of the copyright. The only reason we may have a chance at WotC Official campaigns is because good business sense dictates that the better NW does the more revenue WotC will make.
Let's hope of the best but expect the worst. Any campaigns you don't make yourself are copyrighted so while you can draw inspiration from them you, legally, have to make drastic changes to them as well.
WotC could in fact use the Foundry themselves to recreate theitr official campaigns. that way, the whole issue of copyright is rendered moot. I would imagine that people at WotC are itching to get their hands on Neverwinter and the Foundry just like we are...
As to whether or not they actually do something like that is anyone's guess...
Speaking for myself, I plan on sticking to original campaigns of my own.
I'm not really a John Galt,
but I play one on the forums...

This is not true. The only thing you cannot use in STO is actor likenesses. You can use the characters if you make them look different than the actor who played them(which of course kind of defeats the purpose, but still). Since you wont have the actor problem with D&D, you should be able to use any character you want.
Don't expect to be allowed to use copywrite characters in your missions, so do NOT plan on writing your epic 6 part Drittz/Elminster slash fanfic mission, that will likely violate the EULA more then the imagery violated my mind typing it out. Very likely dramatic persona such as that will be verboden, but this rule might be 'looser' as there are no likeness issues with fictional characters like you run into with tv show based characters.
The same though goes for copywritten missions as well. SO do not plan on recreating the Temple of Elemental Evil in game. The foundry isnt there for plagerism after all, its there for your own creativity to shine.
With that said, there is nothing against referencing these characters and locations/events. All this though is pure speculation until the official EULA is unveiled, but I will say dont be surprised if it is similar to the STO one, and about as annoyingly vague too.
So I've been writing a campaign on how the game could have continued AFTER PS:Torment ended. I've got it about half done and planned on using it in a regular D&D game. This would NOT be allowed in Foundry though, correct? Just don't wanna do it and get banned/sued. XD I've been working on it for a while after I re-purchased PS:Torment a while back. Started it years ago and just thought it'd be really cool to see it come to life. If not, that's alright. Just want a game based "in" Sigil. It's so little explored that it's ridiculous. I mean, you can find ANYTHING there, and unlike other places with the "anything goes" rules, i.e. Menzoberranzan, or other drow/netherese cities, there's a power who keeps ALL the players in line, there is no dominant religion/family. Anyone and everyone's able to lose it all.
Two major points almost made me step away from this game. No alignment (I like to provide the RP options for evil characters) and (judgeing from STO) not being able to use cannon material.
I came to this conclusions, these restrictions should be viewed as opportunities. I will just pretend theplayers are evil, and write my own stories.
Moreover, the Foundry system i saw on the video will provide modders with broad and easily accesible exposure. SO much more in players faces and much simplerr than downloading content from IGN.

That is absolutely false about STO. You can use canon material, you simply cannot use the likenesses of actors who played the characters. You can in fact use Kirk or Picard, they just cant look like Shatner and Stewart.
I don't mean to irk you, "for me" if I can't make my NPCs look like themselves I just won't use them. Thanks to the above poster for helping me clarify thatpoint.
I also think WotC wont allow their old campaigns to be made thru foundry coz of copyright and maybe because there will be alot of bad authors which can give a bad name to great D&D campains.
Thinking about it... wouldnt be great if one of the best author reward would be a "license" to build WotC original campaing ???

Since we arent talking about actor likenesses in D&D, that issue wont exist for NW.

You can't remake episodes.
-Don't expect to be able to make campaigns.
You can use character names but not appearances.
-The difference between Star Trek and D&D is that there's not really any one appearance for the characters. Some characters like Drizzt are so iconic you could say they are named and look like him but some of the other characters are very much up to interpretation. I could name a horde of characters which would fall into this category but I'm going to hope you understand my inference.
We'll see when NW is released but to compare D&D to Star Trek is like comparing apples to oranges. D&D has historically protected famous character names and unlike Star Trek is mainly in novel/written mediums compared to Acted/Graphical mediums.

And herein lies the rub:
"Episodes" in the ST universe are often movies/television shows done by real-life actors who are part of copyrighted and personal images. Whether this is allowed for fantasy characters is uncertain, as well as if it's allowed as a "private campaign of a module they have" as well. But whether we can reproduce D&D "famous characters" and "campaigns played" will need to bew answered by a PWE/Cryptic employee for clarity.
So PWE/Cryptic, can we use famous D&D characters and can we recreate famous D&D modules in our own interpretation?
I dont know about drizzt but I am sure you can use any character from the neverwinter 4e campaign book. The IP of the characters in foundry would still be owned by cryptic, right? So if they have the right for some particular character to use it in their missions, it should be ok to do that (infact take that character out of the NW story using the same model used in game).
Regarding the campaigns, WotC might allow the fans to make foundry remake to their pnp campaigns as it will increase the popularity of pnp in general and their old campaigns too. They did allow it in old NWN, right? If not, people can always make 'similar' campaigns with are not completely same - that would be much better I think as foundry may not allow complete scripting.

Yes and no. Cryptic might be given permission to use Drizzt or Elminster.

You could remake campaigns in NWN but it wasn't legal, monitored or policed. Considering Cryptic will be more responsible for content created we shouldn't expect the same rules.
We'll get an official answer soon but for now that's my view on the matter.
In situations such as this it is best to do what you want to do, If Cryptic does not want certain missions on their servers they can simply take them off.
I am not sure what is meant by recreating D&D campaigns. NWO is a new medium, (not paper) therefore any campaign created within NWO would be a new campaign, not a recreation.
I enjoyed the Dark elf novels, But I don't think I would make a campaign featuring Drizzt. However Drizzt was simply one character, Are we to be forbidden the entire dark elf canon??
The thing you need to consider though is that it is possible in order to protect 'the integrity' of their IP's WOTC could just say no to use of its 'main' characters as even contacts. This is still entirely speculation until such point as a 'concrete' EULA is released.
I have a strong feeling we will see Drizzt, Dahlia and Barrabus...I can't say how I have this strong feeling because I might not be allowed to post again. b:bye
