In nwn 1 there were feats and skills that allowed you to create or customize items or create potions and wands.
So this game will have profesions like wow or feats that allow you to do that ?
If they are feats i personaly will not use them i prefer a stronger character then use a feat on potions.

They haven't released anything on the crafting system other than "it will be included."
And I do mean nothing.
I'm not sure about fourth edition but in third, as you stated, a character had to sacrifice adventuring abilities in order to be a proficient crafter. It's logically sound in a way but from a gameplay standpoint very distasteful. I remember even after Bioware released Player Crafting most Persistent Worlds stuck with the player designed crafting skills rather than Bioware's.
It's just not fun or logical to be a top notch crafter without any combat abilities if the only way to advance while in crafting is by going out and fighting monsters.
So I do hope they make crafting a separate entity from combat. If a crafting character can't be a level 60 adventurer, so be it, as long as they can hide away in a mineshaft or something and never have to go out fighting in order to improve their crafting abilities.
