We do have our own 4e god here - truthseeker, but he is out exploring his githzerai dimension.

For the difference I would say they are different. It is actually better to learn 4e from scratch than be confused by 3e. Also, it is easier than 3e(imo).

A lot of things like tieflings, alignment, eladrin, classes were completely reset, in fact completely different than what was said in 3e. Spellplague is a power in itself - blue marks of fire. Flying continents with various stuff make it more nice fluff wise. So all in all, using 3e as a base to know 4e will actually be tougher than learning 4e using AD&D as base.
