I did a search and the last post I found on this was from before the major changes to the forums.
My question is this: Are we still going to have our naming convention be like it is in Champions Online and Star Trek Online? IE: Drizzt@RASalvatore?
I ask because at E3 it was told to a buddy of mine that Cryptic is NOT the developer of this game but PWE IS.
So if this is no longer a Cryptic game, then do the Cryptic naming conventions still apply? And if it IS a Cryptic game, then will it still adhere to the old naming convention?
Thanks!

Unless I've completely missed something, Perfect World is the publisher. My understanding is also that the @Handle is still part of how Cryptic's games work, but at this point I don't know about Neverwinter. It seems like since NW isn't live right now then it would be easier to take that part out of the user ID system, but that seems like a pretty drastic thing to take out if you ask me. Being somebody that's also familiar (and comfortable) with @Handles I'd hate to see it go, but since none of us have any real experience using them while playing Neverwinter would we really miss it in the long run?

I certainly would.
I intend to make full use of the cross game chat functionality between Champions, Star Trek and Neverwinter when NW launches, as I do for STO and CO now.
With the game based off Cryptics engine I would venture to say that the name handling system will remain, then again could be wrong but unlikely. Since it's a single server I highly doubt that it will follow traditional naming system as most will not get their names they want.
Also I would ask who told your buddy that Crytpic was not the developer as that guy blew smoke up your friends HAMSTER as that rep obviously doesn't know the difference from a publisher and developer. Lay ya odds was some PW knuckledhead rep. BW (RIP to a once great company who developed legacies like BG) developed SWTOR but it was EA who published it.
I hope there is a @ handle system like CO with a filter system to block all the names like drizz aldrizt drizzzz or xxdrizztttxx or some other variations of npcs.
I know i'd be greatly disappointed if it were to go away. I use Pidgin to chat with folks in my various channels when I'm not playing and if they keep the current chat system, it'll likely carry over. I would like to see that.

It's confirmed that Cryptic is using its naming system on Neverwinter. Since it's a cross-gaming thing, I'm holding off on listing it on the Neverwinter new users FAQ, but I got this confirmed this afternoon.

Yes, devs answered it:
Q: @handles as in CO/STO? Would they be in NW too?
A: @handles are going to be in Neverwinter.
I understand that some people find these immersion breaking, however, as has already been pointed out in this thread, you can disable them.
Having @handles in our games really helps people to be able to play the character they want to play. You're not going to see people running around with the name, "Soulbadger1569" in Neverwinter, because someone who wants to be "Souldbadger" will be able to use that as their character name.
I'm not too sure about the rest of you, but if "Soulbadger" becomes some really popular name for some reason, I'd rather not see a bunch of "Soulbadger<randomnumbers>" or "Xa_Soulbadger_aX" running around in game.
For me, that breaks immersion a little more than an @ handle, which in all honesty can be easily ignored for RP purposes, or even turned off.
//Also melanderi: "After querying the appropriate deities, we can safely say that your cryptic handle will display in game."//

How do you configure Pidgen to use Cryptics chat system? I use it at work so I can use FB, Messenger, and Google chat in one app. Being able to use it for game chat on my second monitor would be awesome. I hate how in game chat windows can suck up so much space.

I added instrictions on the official Wiki page for Out of Game Chat IM+(I-phone) and Xabber (Android) as well as trillian are also viable programs to use for the out of game chat.
But there is a question on what is required to use it. on STO/CO you need a gold account of course gold on one seems to work for both. I do not know what the requirement would be for Neverwinter since we do not have GOLD accounts, Would it require a founders/faewild pack? does it require a zen transfer? Or maybe it just requires you to be level 15.
Has anyone without a gold account on STO/CO been able to use the out of game chat? if so what have you bought? and what level are you?
they very much would be smart to leave the @account_name in the game due to the original reason for placing it there. To prevent guilds from being exploited by trolls. In WoW they didn't have that option so one could literally create new characters and get invited into the guild they just got thrown out of and harass people.
Also their ARC system of cross game accounts would be affected I think if they took this out.
