Though they would be horribly infeasible I like the super elongated ears for elves. Aesthetically pleasing but I can imagine they would be grabbed in a fight and all sorts of pain ensuing.

Longer ears can be a good flap when facing a bard with low charisma btw... Just fold them and stuff them in the ear canal.
Am I the only one that thinks of customization in terms of character stats? I hate the relatively modern idea of race/gender/outward appearance as the "customization" part and then every character is exactly the same in terms of stats and abilities.
For PC customization means I get to choose my stats, skills and abilities when creating and leveling up a character and there should be enough meat under the hood for multiple viable builds/playstyles for each class and within each build/playstyle there should be enough for viable variance there.
So, not every level 11 wibble is exactly the same as every other level 11 wibble.
Very true. I think most of us have tip toed around the stats because we really don't know how stats, skills and the like are being handled. We have an idea by the fact that it is D&D let alone 4e (D&D = plenty of options, 4e = options are scaled back initially). So I think most of us don't know what to make of it yet to know what to even request.

I've only seen Cryptic's customization dealt with on an appearance level speaking in a universal sense. As to the character "build" as you refer, that depends on the game rules/setting, and we are lacking specifics at the time of this reply. I do hope it at least follows the 4E Character Builder with its ability to numerically choose your stats and no "pre-gen-ing" it only based on a race/class. The rest (skills, feats, themes, backgrounds, etc.) we'll have to see if/how it's included in the "inspired by" MMO.
Well actually what I find is that being a D&D, the vast build differences are obvious. So I don't think that will be a problem. Even if right now same builds were released, eventually they will release hybrid and multiclass and add on abilities that can be choosen. So I am not really worried about builds.
It should be interesting to see what the customization is like, especially given how STO handled it. The player character customization in STO is fantastic, it truly is. When I tried SWTOR I was rather shocked to find the customization to be so bland and rigid.
If NWN's customization is even half STO's, I'll love it.

I've seen D&D implementations done right and I've seen them done terribly. Just being D&D doesn't guarantee anything.

Maybe, but a game like this will never have the funds to implement the really cool, niche type classes abilities. There's just no profit in it.
I also think if we don't push on it then the devs are likely to think it's not important. For me, it's the difference between playing the game and not.
I'd like to see a "vanity" armour option like in Age of Conan.
You have two tabs in the character equip menu:
"power" armour (which is from where your stats derive)
"vanity" armour (optional, toggelable slots for items you like the look of)
With which, it is possible to go through the game with the look of any armour you have aquired, or to leave bare any body part while still keeping your stats.
It's good for RP, and good for looking your best at all times b:cool
I concur in wanting sliders for facial features and body types.
Either that or a variety of body types to choose from:
Ectomorph: Skinny/banana
Ecto/Meso: Lean/athletic
Mesomorph: Muscley/hourglass
Meso/Endo: Chunky/pear
Endomorph: Fatty/apple
