I am guessing that Ranger will be a pay to play addon later?
We are still missing several phb1 classes, but have 1 of each type (defender, leader, striker and controller). Are these the only classes that will be available at launch?
I notice there are no racial forums, would it not be a good idea for race forums as well?

(prejt here ) don't think so..
If nvn had like 8 class and then another 2 for p2p then it would be more/less ok but when you have only 4 class's don't see a chance for that.
btw GL to everyone on new post grinding struggles....
Well, probably all those 4 classes will have 3 roles (or talent tree, whatever u wish to say), although if it will be like 4th edition rules it wont change that much the game play of the class.
Im a bit sad to know theres only 4 classes in game but hopefully cryptic will add more short after launch, at least is what i hope
And i rly cant wait to see how clerics will heal hehe :P

I think those 4 will probably be starting classes, but speculation about how it will work is kind of futile until they release more info. I really hope they don't charge for classes, since it's so integral to the core game. Only time will tell

I thought somewhere they mentioned they would not be using the healing surges. I will have to look around and see if I can find that quote.
You are right. It had to do something with - potions doing the same thing as surges so they decided to wipe it off. Though to bring it back, if its in demand, wouldn't be too hard it seems - but they decided to do away with HS because of some reason.

BTW: Clerics here act as leaders, not healers.
Theres no heal roles in 4th edition but also in pnp u can build some serious healing characters, at epic tear i tryed a cleric with messanger of peace paragon path and saint at epic tier and i could heal more than 100hp with any power. (again, with the right feat/power combos and gear ofc)
The experience i had at epic tier our party rly needed a leader with healing skill to survive.
About neverwinter i think it will be a bit diferent, leaders with healing skills will definly be needed when u make dungeons and prob some harder quests and prob at all stages of the game. But i also think clerics wont work like any other MMO's thats why i said i cant wait to see how they gonna heal :P hhehe
I'd bet on the ranger class and dragonborn race being pre-order or collector's edition bonuses as well as available through the store. It's what I'd do.
loks like u never played PWE games all updates are compliutly free ,dont wory thets will probaly same here...lok champions after PWE bought cryptic none new misions for money didint made and now whit last exspansion they are all part of game now and complitly unlocked free for everyone

You must be new here...
What pre-order??? It's a f2p game. There is no pre-order, or any order for that matter. And, if PWE has any say in it (which they do, since they are the damn owners of the whole thing) every last piece of content will be available free of charge...
I come from 3.5... is it gonna be hard to get used to this? Wait, wasn't Neverwinter destroyed in the Spellplague?
It was, but some crazy people decided that they want to reclaim its ruins and rebuild new Neverwinter on the same location, so here we are, fighting against ash piles while trying to rebuild something what maybe would be best left forgotten! :P

Think of it as a shift from AD&D to 3e. 4e is quite different. That said, game is only 4e based. It is more of an active time combat based game than a turn based thing.
Apart from that, imo, the fluff of 4e is quite good, if you ignore about the part of many major gods dying together. Asmodeus is now an ex-angel of a seemingly powerful diety - 'He Who Was'. Spellplague has infested people and they have sort of dragonmark-like cursed marks which can be mastered (aka control your dark side).
Everything is pure speculation at this point. Keep in mind that they are not going to add unannounced classes in the class forums. It could be the the ranger will be included at launch but they are not going to add the forums until they announce it.
While I defended the 5 classes in the past but them not having the ranger will be a bad move as people will say "f*** this..." since the ranger is a very iconic class if not an essential not to mention that many like playing an archer type. Cryptic needs to play their cards right as a launch of a game can make or break an MMO. Look at SWTOR which it is not a failure they severely shot themselves in the foot with it's launch.

They are probably gonna do something similar to DDO, ie 4 classes with various sub-classes. Rogues will probably include rangers, assasins etc as job advancements, sub-classes, talent trees or whatever. Or they might just give rogues a bow along with the daggers - anyway, almost every single MMORPG out there has at least some form of ranged, non-magic class, so I see no concievable reason that Cryptic haven't included one in NW...

I'm still trying to figure out how "healing spells" work in 4e inspired rules. Let alone what classes will or won't be here. How will leader classes work? Will they be de-facto healers with "Spells?" Does soloing offer any benefits beside healing w leaders?
(And still trying to ignore those poofy bears to the side every time I post. Okay, just one more, but that's it:

Ofc this is pure speculation but....
2 at-will to deal some dmg maybe one of them to give a small buff (left and right mouse buttons).
1 utility for a teleport/fly or something similar to evade attack (shift key).
2 encounters, maybe 1 hit an enemie and heal target and the other 1 cure light wounds ( Q and E Keys).
Ofc the power will improve as u lvl up. (ex: cure mass critical wounds)
Just my thought
PS: And we dont have any clue how diferent roles will cleric have. (Like wizards with control wizard role ,rogue with Trickster rogue role,etc...)

If healing is limited to encounter/daily then one must question how combat mechanics will work. Traditional tank n spanks simply won't work in the game if healing is on a cooldown. I would think that at least one at-will will be a healing ability.
Personally I hope they don't follow the ohhh so tiresome trend of healer spam bots. With everyone having a utility skill it brings to mind that maybe Cryptic will have a different style of combat compared to the traditional themepark combat.

4e clerics don't really need to do too much due to the healing surge mechanic so i'm curious as well
