Hello everyone! I am mereshi! I have been playing perfect world entertainment games for
A few years now and I am super excited for Neverwinter! I do not know much about the dungeons and dragons universe but I would love to learn more if. anyone is willing to teach me

Well, I would say it doesn't matter a lot, there would be pre-made builds so you don't need to concentrate on character at first. The edition is the new one which is quite different from old ones, so only a few would know the game mechanics anyways.
I would say just keep an open mind and enjoy the game and don't let people with bad attitude bother you. Everything else wouldn't matter much.
Only advise I have for you is a bit selfish one . A lot of people in one other MMO based on D&D kept insisting that cleric means healer, and would go into rage when a cleric would zerg.
Thats why I said keep an open mind and everything else might be ok
EDIT: Oh! btw, based on my previous experience, there are more people willing to teach than willing to learn.
I was wondering, what kind of classes exist in the DnD universe?
am i to expect archers, clerics, mages, warriors, and assassins?
Yes. (Whether it's right or wrong, a good or bad idea if true: ) Classes have descriptive titles which seem a lot like MMO games. So your clerics, bards and shamans which heal and buff you are called leaders; your paladins, fighters and barbarians which draw enemies' attacks and tank damage are called Defenders; the rogue, assassin, swordmage (or bladesinger or any hybrid fighrer arcane caster combo class,) and monk that pretty much do notable damage are called the strikers; and the wizards, warlocks and druids which do damage and impose the most AoE/Root and individual conditions on top of damage are called the Controllers.
At the time of this posting, we know there will be fighter, wizard, cleric, rogue and (I think) Paladin. These classes will have further specializations that define the class' specialty called "builds" but we don't know more than that. If you don't know 4E, going into things like control vs war wizard may get confusing, but let's just say you decide (a lot like NWN and NWN2 with their packages) how the specific class focuses on its abilities. Feats and skills are uncertain on setup (if any or just in "name" only but something completely different) at this time however.
The best way to start IMO is to read the dungeons and dragons books, which the game is based off of.
The first book is Guantylgrym, then Neverwinter, and Charons Claw. The author is R.A. Salvatore. This will get you started on some of the Lore of D&D. The rest should come thru the game experience! Have Fun!
